Clean Eating, Paleo...

Good Morning lovely, A friend of mine, Keely, writes a very interesting blog. Watch Keely Work is a blog about her journey of a major lifestyle change. She eats a strict Paleo diet and workouts like a maniac. Needless to say, I find the blog quite motivating. Since starting my marathon training, I've really been trying to eat a lot healthier, but for some reason it's just not helping the fat loss. I run 4x/week, I lift weights 2x/week, I do yoga 1x/week and pole dancing 1x/week. I think I just need some fine tuning with my diet. I've been interested in the general idea of a paleo diet for a while. When I first moved to Toronto and started working at my first job, a lot of the people there ate a Paleo diet. I was totally weirded out by the whole "eat like a caveman" thing, and just never got on board. Since then (over a year later) I've read about the science behind it, and have realized that it's not as insane as I once thought. The only thing that would be hard about it is, well, there are multiple reasons why I would find it hard. 1. no carbs, from starchy foods that is. I don't know about you, but I friggen LOVE starch. This could be part of the problem I'm having losing the unwanted body fat. 2. tons of preparation. I know this kind of sounds lazy, but it takes a lot of work to preplan meals and snacks. It wouldn't be impossible, but I'd definitely need to find an easy way to do it. I guess once I start doing it and get used to it, it wouldn't feel so much like work. 3. limiting my alcohol. Since C has hurt his knee, I've very much cut back on the amount of alcohol I've been drinking. I can definitely tell it's making me feel better. This weekend I went out on Friday, my first time going out since the near year I believe. I literally felt hung over and dehydrated all weekend. It didn't feel good, and I don't plan on going that hard again for a long time. 4. overcoming objections. I work in an office where fitness and diet may not be everyones first concern. C also isn't too strict about what he eats. It might be hard for me to have to make two separate dinners, or deal with the little smirks the people at my office give me. Mind you, it wouldn't be the first time this has happened (like when I became a vegetarian), so it wouldn't be the end of the world. So I'm thinking I'm going to try out a Paleo diet for a week and see how I feel, and how I feel on my runs and during my workouts. I think I will start on Monday the 20th, and go until the 26th, and evaluate if I feel better, and if the preparation and time I put into it is worth it. Thoughts? Have you tried a paleo diet before? Stay sweet. xoxo

Just Another Sunny Day In Paradise

Good afternoon! How is everyone doing on this bright and sunny day in February? This has been the best winter I’ve ever experienced. It’s my first winter in Toronto, and there has hardly been ANY snow! It’s been great for driving and it’s been great for my outdoor training! I absolutely hate being cold, so when it’s snowy and slushy and icy outside, it’s very hard for me to get up the motivation to hit the pavement. I’m sure I’m not the only one… The training for my half marathon has been going well! I have a countdown going on of how many runs I have before the race, and it’s down to 50! I started with 68, so I’ve had 18 training runs. That’s pretty good! According to my running app, I’ve run a total of 81.24 km, and have ran a total of 15 hours, 13 minutes and 4 seconds. I’m curious to know how many km’s and hours I’ll have put in by race day! That’s kind of exciting to find out. My knees are much better, I’ve been icing them for 30 minutes after every run and I’ve been doing exercises specific to my weaker muscles. So far it’s really been helping, and I’m so glad! No pain is AWESOME. So since my last blog post I’ve starting “Pinning”. Pinterest has become a semi-obsession of mine; I have the “Pin It” button on my computer and everything. Do you have Pinterest? If you do, definitely follow me – I’ll follow you back! There are so many different boards I want to start, but I’m refraining and only pinning to 9 different boards. I REALLY want to have a “wedding ideas” board, but I’m going to stop before I even start, that board would have more pins than any of my others. I love weddings and everything wedding…. I won’t feed the fire. You can check out my Pinterest site here.
Also, I have an awesome idea for any lady who loves trying new products. I’ve subscribed to what is called GlossyBox. I saw it on television this morning (thank you Breakfast Television!) and knew I had to try it as soon as possible. Basically it’s something you pay $15/month for (delivery is included in the price) and each month you get 5 new product samples shipped to your home based on a beauty profile you fill out (ie. Organic products, colour of products, colour of your skin, etc.). It comes in this cute, little box all done up with a ribbon on it, and has instructions and tips on how to use each product. How cool is that idea? I’m so excited to receive my first GlossyBox, I can hardly contain myself!
That’s all for me today folks. I have a ton of work to do, but thought I’d give you a little update on my training, and the exciting Pinterest and GlossyBox! Stay Sweet. xoxo
