I Went Shopping, For Pride!! Hot Mess Photos!!

Good afternoon Beautiful,
Well last night was the start of the long weekend, and the Canada Day long weekend is also Pride weekend in Toronto. I told you how my friends brother has a party every year, and last night was the party. It was amazing as always! I didn’t get home until 6 in the morning… seriously, it was already light outside. I can never stay up/out this late except for this party. Every year I seem to be at it longer, and longer….
After the party, C, Alyssa and Trevor started walking to McDonalds. I know what you’re thinking… “Sarrrrrah!!! Nooooooo don’t eeeeeeeeat it!!!!!!!!!!!!” and at the time I was totally convinced that I wanted a Big Mac. I’ve never ate a whole Big Mac before, but I’ve tasted one, and at 6am after 8 hours of drinking, it was totally justifiable in my mind. We got to McDonalds and needless to say, they didn’t have Big Macs because by the time we got there they had started serving breakfast. Seriously. Lucky for me and my body, I didn’t order anything. I told C we needed to stop somewhere on the way home, but when I got into the cab I totally forgot I had said that, came home and just fell asleep.
This is probably why I’m not feeling so hot today. I’m so glad I didn’t eat out though, I stuck to my goals! No eating out! I really debated figuring out how to get C to take me to McDonalds when I woke up this morning, but sucked it up and ate soup. This soup was not part of my diet plan, however I did not order it. I also ate some Lara Bars, those things are my heaven, the coconut cream ones make my mouth water just thinking about them.
Sorry for you fitness buffs, no workout to report today so this blog is somewhat short, but I wanted to share some pictures from last night with you!  I also went shopping, this whole outfit is new. The skirt and top are from Mendicino, the necklace is from H&M and the sandals are from Steve Madden!

4 Sets of Goals, 2 Workouts and Half A Pull-Up!

Good afternoon Beautiful,
Last night I decided to take the night off. Completely off, I wasn’t on my laptop, I wasn’t on my iPad, I cooked dinner, did laundry, watched Dexter with C and tried to finish reading my book, LA Candy. It was bittersweet because it was so nice to not look at a screen, or have to write or network, but I wanted to! I felt bad not writing because I did workout yesterday! I wanted to share my day with everyone, but I just felt like I wanted to take the night off. And it was nice, but now I’m back in action!
This was part of dinner last night! Mmm.
You all know how much I love food journaling. I have a food journal that I take with me everywhere, and lately I’ve been really strict with writing down everything I put into my body, and I’ve been doing well! I’ve been preparing all of my own food including all whole, good foods and nothing processed. I’ve been drinking about 3 litres of water through my work day every day, and I’ve been weighing and measuring all of my meals. I guess it’s been paying off because today I found out I’ve lost another .4% body fat. I’m not a big person, I mean, I’m tall, but I’m not bulky so losing fat is hard for me to do, I was so excited to see this! It’s only .4%, but it’s something, and I’m THAT much closer to my goal.
Speaking of goals, I told you that I’d be sharing some important goals with you guys, and I think I’m ready to be held accountable for them! I’m not going to go into super detail about how I plan on achieving these goals, but I do have it all plotted down, I’ve set SMART goals for myself and I’ll be looking at these every day. I’ve put my goals into different categories:
Work Goals
- I will get a raise this year, I have a figure in my mind, but I don’t need to share that with you all! As well as a figure in my mind for the bonuses I will be getting this year.
- I will be figuring out where I want to be and what I want to do long term by December 31, 2012.
Personal Goals
- I want to complete a certification course at George Brown College in Special Event Operations Management.  I’ve been researching it and I am so interested in doing it, just for ME… and the fact that I find event planning so interesting. I’d like to have the certification by December 31, 2014.
- Grow out my hair and go blonde again. I know this is a fairly lame goal, but my hair is fried from me using a flat iron basically every day for the past...... 8 years? I've stopped flat ironing unless I'm doing something special, and I'm using a bunch of products to help restore my hair. I will also be going back to my blond self in the meantime!
Fitness Goals- I have a certain % body fat that I will be at by December 31, 2012.
- Start going to CrossFit more often. I’m going to start by purchasing a 10-class pass, and my goal is to do my first full WOD at my CrossFit gym (I’ve done full WODs many times, but on my own… it’s a lot different in an actual CrossFit setting).
- Consider whether or not I want to train for another half marathon in 2013.
- Complete 3 bodyweight dips by December 31, 2012.
- Complete 1 full pull-up at bodyweight by December 31, 2012.
- Stop eating take-out food, only eat foods that I prepare for myself for the next two months (baby steps… this also includes not being jealous/pissed if C orders take-out because this is MY goal and I’m the only one that can make these decisions for me).
 - Quit drinking during the week.
- Continue playing beach volleyball every week, indoor beach in the cooler seasons.
Financial Goals
- Quit using my credit card. I want to be able to have my credit card only for emergencies. First goal, pay the DAMN thing off! It’s been too long, it needs to go.
- Stop eating out (again) because making my own food saves me money and is a lot healthier.
- Figure out how to earn some extra income somehow. This I haven’t completely thought through… I’m working on it! I might want to take a TRX Instructor course, we’ll see.
- Continue saving as much money as I am for the next couple months, and as of September I’m going to increase my savings. Another reason to pay off my credit card NOW.. more money to save!
AHHH – so it’s official. These are my goals. I have them saved on my computer, and I need to somehow put these things onto the background of my computer so I stare at it every day, reminding me where I want to be, and what is important to me. I’m going to do monthly updates on these goals because if I don’t I know I won’t feel accountable, and I want to reach my goals! It’s the best feeling in the world to achieve a goal!
Let’s get to the fun stuff… Yesterdays workout was:

50 squats holding 2x 10lbs dumbbells
50 lunges holding 2x 10lbs dumbbells
50 plié squats holding 1x 20lbs dumbbell
Leg extension at 85lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps
Leg curl at 100lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps
Leg Press at 170lbs, 2 sets, 12 reps
20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical, level 5, 3km
I had planned on doing 100 of each of the first three exercises, but it turns out my legs were a lot more tired and sore from TRX than I had thought and I could only get through 5 sets instead of 10.
And today’s workout! It was…
Lat pulldown at 60lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Dumbbell One Arm Row at 22.5lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Cable Lat Pulldown at 5lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps
Lateral Shoulder Raises at 50lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps
Assisted Pull-Up at 70lbs of help (so I was pulling 80lbs), 2 sets, 8 reps
Assisted Dips at 50lbs of help (I was dipping 100lbs), 2 sets, 8 reps
Cable Bicep Curl at 25lbs with a 15lbs bar (40lbs total), 2 sets, 10 reps
15 minutes of cardio, running on the treadmill at 6.0 the whole time, ran 1.5 miles. I was a bit nervous to start running again. I know I have ran before but it was a warm-up, not an actual “run”. It felt amazing. I opted for no music, to leave me with just my thoughts and the tv screen (it was too hot to run outside today. I also learned that Sidney Crosby signed a 12 year contract with the Penguins for $104.4 million dollars….). I had no shin pain and it was great. There was a time when I thought I was starting to feel some pain, but I kept running and it wasn’t anything except my mind looking for pain. I haven’t ran in a long time (since my half-marathon) so my legs are feeling a bit shaky now! But I’m so glad to finally have the feeling of being able to run again!
Also, I would like to let you know that when I was playing around talking to a friend of mine in the gym, I jumped up and held onto the TRX frame and attempted a pull up. I’ve tried these before and at full extension, I could barely make a bend in my elbows. Well yesterday, I did this and (from what I remember… this might be in my head, not reality) got almost a 90degree bend in my elbow. HALF A PULL UP! A real pull up too, full body weight! I was so excited for this…
It’s almost the long weekend, do you have any fitness goals for this weekend? Healthy meals? Less drinking? Mine is to make all of my own food. Weekends are my downfall so this is my first weekend of really trying to stick to my diet. Tell me your goal… you’ll be more likely to succeed, I promise!
Stay sweet.
xoxo
PS - This is what I came up with for my computer background... neat huh?

Feeling Overwhelmed, Maybe Share Some Goals With Me?

Good morning Beautiful,
Lately I’ve been feeling super overwhelmed with work. I hate to admit it because I like to be the person that everyone can depend on, I can’t say no to co-workers or companies I do the administration for, and it’s definitely catching up to me. Today alone I’ve sent 106 emails. Seriously, in less than 8 hours, over 100 emails. That’s 13.25 emails per hour, which is about 1 email every 4.5 minutes. Plus the actual work I have to do behind the emails, plus my own work that needs to get done. I don’t have enough time in the day to do everything! It’s really starting to be frustrating and draining.
So realistically, I have no other option than to work from home when I can. Every time I do work from home, I usually get asked by someone “Why are you working at 7:45 on a week night?!”, well because no one else is working therefore I can actually catch up on emails and get stuff done. Every year each of the companies I look after have their “Annual Renewal” with GoodLife, which can be either the 1st of the 15th of any given month. For September 1, I have to do a renewal package for 26 different people to make sure their memberships get renewed. It’s A LOT to pull up every single member they have (they could have anywhere from 10 to over a thousand different members) plus draft up an annual agreement for them to sign. I ended up doing my August 15th ones from home on the weekend, so I think I’m going to have to suck it up and take 3-4 hours on Saturday to do these renewals. I’m also writing now so that I can go home after volleyball tonight and catch up on emails.
Isn’t it strange that the higher the rank you have in a company, the less “work” you actually have to do? I’m the lowest on the totem pole, therefore I have a lot of work. Bah!
The reason I love doing what I do is because we promote wellness in the workplace, which I’ve come to learn 1000% counts in the productivity of employees. Every single day of the week, I need to take a 1-hour break and get some sort of physical exercise in or my mind just falls down dead. Seriously. I used to go tanning on my lunch (I KNOW, tanning is bad for you…… don’t judge) and also have myself a fun little 20 minute nap. Well when I got back to work, I’d be so out of it, I couldn’t focus, it just wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t until I started running that I knew I had to start working out at lunch because I had no other time during my day to lift weights, or go running if I had plans after work. I noticed that my mid-day workout completely woke me up, and got my head back in the game for work. Sure – I had like 20 new emails waiting for me when I got back, but I am able to plow through them because my mind is so clear.
I also enjoy the mid-day workout because I get to go home after work and do NOTHING. I don’t have to commit to going to the gym once I get home because I’ve already been there, done that. Nothing is more satisfying to me than going home, putting Dr. Phil on in the bedroom and lying in bed for an hour before I start to cook dinner. I think this is also why people enjoy working out first thing in the morning. I’ve tried to get into the morning workout, but I just can’t do it. I have NO motivation to get out of bed any earlier than need be, and I need to wake up and do stuff before I even think about lifting weights. I’d probably drop them on me while half asleep. Major kudos to those of you who do workout first thing in the morning, I seriously envy that. Keep up the good work!
Today was a fun workout. I went upstairs to the gym and ran into a trainer that I know. He asked what I was working on today, I said “Hey Chris – Legs!” he said “Want to do TRX?”, I said “right now?” he said “yes!” and I said “ok!” then he said “go upstairs and warm up for 5 minutes and I’ll be up when you’re done” and I said “ok!” and made my way upstairs. That’s basically how the whole encounter went down. So today I did a TRX workout for the first time! It was super fun and I’ve been meaning to try it for a long time now. They’re trying to promote it at my current gym because so many trainers are certified to teach it now, so they’re doing demo classes. I sweat a ton during the workout, but again, I didn’t have the “oh my god I can’t walk down the stairs because my legs are going to give out” type feeling that I have been enjoying lately. We did a lot of different exercises, so I’ll see what I can remember… For those who don’t know what TRX is, it’s a suspension training system, so it’s attached way above you, and there’s two handles that you workout on, using body weight. Google it, I can’t explain it well.
This is a TRX set up!
Chest press, 15 reps
Row, 15 reps
Squats, 15 reps
1-legged Squats, 15 legs (HARD!)
Hamstring curls, 15 reps
Tricep extension, 15 reps
Bicep curl, 15 reps
Lunges, 15 reps
1-legged Lunges, 15 reps
Plank on forearms, 3 sets of 10seconds
Plank on hands, 3 sets of 10 seconds
TRX crunches, set of 5, set of 4, set of 3, set of 2, set of 1 (feet hanging in the air, I’m on my hands, I pull my knees to my stomach)
I think this is the majority of what we did... that I can remember at least.
The thing with TRX is that depending on where you place your body it varies the level of difficulty. Also, I was playing around and did half of a real pull up! I’ve never gotten that close before in my life! I’m so going to try and do a whole one someday. I have my last night of 4’s in volleyball tonight too, so hopefully that equals some good calorie burning.
I was writing in my food journal today and realized that I haven’t posted anything out of it for you in a while. Keep in mind, this journal has only been up until now, so it doesn’t include my dinner tonight.

I'm being super committed to my diet this week because I have a photoshoot on Monday with the wonderfully talented Tara Noelle from http://www.taranoelle.ca/ (or you can click her photo on the right hand side of my blog to be taken there directly). I've worked with her before and she's so much fun to work with. PLUS this time she is bringing a makeup artist to do my face. Seriously... I feel so intense, I need to start working on faces and poses in the mirror. Just kidding... I usually show up and do as the photographer says... Anyways, today we were messaging back and forth and she suggested that I do a post after our photoshoot of some behind the scenes stuff, and I think it's a great idea! So stay tuned for that.....
Also, I’ve been thinking about my goals so far, and I have some written down, but I need to do some revising before I post these for every single person I know to see (literally, my blog goes to my Facebook page… every. single. person. I know. is on my Facebook, well, probably.).
Maybe if you shared some of your goals with me that would motivate me not to be so chicken and to just do it. Please? Pretty please?
Stay sweet.
xoxo
PS - for anyone interested, http://www.viewsport.us/ has given me a promo code to share with you all for 20% off of their really fun tshirts. Crossfitters should love these! They have designes on them that appear once you start sweating a lot! The promocode is "beastmode20".... get to it!

Casual Sets & Safe Sets Never Equal Good Things

Good evening Beautiful,
Happy Monday! I guess that’s a little “past due” since it’s 10pm on Monday night. Oh well, it doesn’t matter.
Last night poor CB woke up with gout in his toe. I guess this is the second time it’s happened, and it’s causing him a lot of pain. He was up from 1-5 basically, and I finally woke up around 4 and couldn’t fall back asleep until 5ish either. It probably didn’t help that I had slept all day Sunday due to my severe hang over. I get so frustrated when I can’t fall asleep – do you? I just get so pissed off if I all of a sudden need to move around, or I accidentally open my eyes… And that was me last night for an hour. I actually contemplated just getting up at 5 and starting my day. I probably could have been productive, but I can tell you I would 100% be dying right now. I don’t do well with lack of sleep. If I could I’d have a 4 hour nap in the afternoon every day. Don’t try to fight me on the fact that napping is bad, because one of the most famous coaches, Charles Poliquin, says napping is good, so there. You can find the article here if you don’t believe me.
Anyways, so that wasn’t a good start to my day. I was fairly tired going into work and had a bit of a headache. I assume I was still somewhat dehydrated from the weekend so I downed a ton of water and iced green tea (and coffee, but that doesn’t count because it’s a diuretic). Then it was getting closer and closer to workout time, and I still had my headache and I caved and borrowed an Advil from a co-worker. I don’t usually take “Advil” type pills because I can usually fix a headache with drinking lots of water, and sleep, but the water wasn’t helping and I didn’t have the option of sleeping on the job (I know, sad..).
So I had my lunch (my lunch today was so colourful! Red cabbage for lettuce, with cherry tomatoes and cucumber and chicken!) an hour before I wanted to work out in order to give my food time to digest and I don’t feel weighed down by my food. So I made my way upstairs around 2pm to hit the gym. I hadn’t really thought about what I wanted to work on today, but I knew I wanted to at least work up a sweat before beach volleyball tonight. So I started with a pretty boring routine of doing upper body. It looked like this:
3 sets of chest press (machine) of 10 reps at 55lbs – note to self to increase weight next time….
3 sets of lat pulldown of 10 reps at 55lbs – again with the increased weight next time…
3 sets of pec dec (machine) 10 reps the first 2 sets and 8 the third at 55lbs
3 sets of dips, 10 reps at 45lbs of help for the first 2 sets, and 55lbs of help for the 3rd.
2 sets of pull-ups with 75lbs of help

At this time, I just wasn’t feeling it. I was feeling tired, and felt like I couldn’t concentrate, so I decided to go on the elliptical machine, because being on an elliptical machine does not require concentration. So I went pretty hard for 20 minutes, worked up a decent sweat and called it a day.
I wasn’t impressed with this workout at all. I didn’t even have my regular protein shake after my workout because I didn’t feel like the workout warranted the protein shake. I prefer having protein after a super intense workout when my whole body is so weak that I shake. After my workout I was just plan old tired. I hate that feeling. On a good note, I plan on sleeping really well tonight with the help of a few magnesium supplements (they help you sleep reeeeeally well, they also keep you “regular” if you know what I mean).
Tonight was the first night of my summer beach volleyball 6’s league. I already knew everyone on my team, but it was fun to play 6’s. The set-up on the court is so different. I’m used to playing 4’s, where one person has front, one person has the right side, one person has the back and one person has the left side. With 6’s, basically there’s 3 people in the back and 3 people in the front. I was so used to serving the ball and running in to cover the whole back of the court, that I ran in after my first service tonight and realized “Ha! I don’t need to rush, there’s two other people covering my usual territory!”. It was fantastic. The first team we played were really fun. They only have 3 people so we let them use one of our people instead of faulting them and having them disqualified. The second team, “Big Digs”, didn’t show… small digs if you ask me. The third team we played was “Casual Sets”. If you know me well, you know that I don’t catch on to cleaver puns easily, I’m somewhat “blonde” (no offence to real blonde people here…) when it comes to things like this. So I said Casual Sets and realized the pun. Well, I then put two and two together, and realized the humour in our team name “Safe Sets”. Hilarious… I had no idea this entire time. Casual Sets and Safe Sets playing together never equals good things.
I got home to dinner cooking, and I was so, SO grateful. We had delicious fresh salmon with steamed carrots and I had left over sweet potato while C had rice. Also, I had blogged yesterday before attempting this, but I successfully made ice cream out of JUST bananas! Look!
My banana ice cream... and my monthly issue of Flare..

I had tried making this once before, but just assumed I knew how to make ice cream out of bananas and put whole bananas, peel on and everything into the freezer. Turns out you can’t peel a frozen banana. Learned that the hard way, and had to throw out my bunch of bananas. I went to intelligent route this time and googled the recipe. Chop bananas up, place them on a plate and freeze for 1-2 hours. Then blend in a magic bullet (or a blender) until it looks like whipped heaven, and you have it! I prefer to have mine frozen a bit more before eating, but you can do whatever you prefer. It was amazing, and I have some more freezing right now!
I was reading a blog post today on goal setting, and it was super motivational for me. I tend to make goals, but have no actual plan for achieving them, which is strange because I love to plan. When I was reading the post, I realized how hard I had been trying to pay off my darn credit card and how many times I’ve failed. I’ve got to stop failing and finally just do it! Also, I have some other personal goals that I was thinking about in my car ride home from the beach tonight. What I want out of this blog, what I want out of my current job, how great of a manager I think I could be to the other SSA’s I work with (it’s a long shot, but everyone needs a goal, right? Or as I learned in the blog today it’s a BHAG, a big hairy audacious goal.), different fitness goals I might possibly want to set (besides the regular lose weight gain muscle type goal). I’m going to think about this more before I post anything on here because I don’t want to get myself in deeper than I can handle, but give me a few days and I will let you ALL hold me accountable for my newly revised goals.
Here’s a short term goal I will promise you, tomorrow’s workout in the gym will be KILLER and I WILL be shaking after, and I WILL have my protein shake, and then I will go play my last game of spring 4’s beach volleyball for this season, and I WILL have an amazing time playing and I WILL be spiking like a son of a gun. Watch out team whoever you are that we play tomorrow….. I’m coming for you!
Stay sweet.

Damn You Vodka, Damn You....

Good afternoon Beautiful,
Unfortunately I believe I will be bed ridden today… no workouts for me. I don’t think going to the gym, and becoming even more dehydrated is a good idea given my current state. We’ve had last night planned for a while now, well since Wednesday. We had a couple of my friends over (Marina, Ali) and Marina brought a friend of hers as well, whose name is also Sarah. We had a few drinks at our condo, and we all went to Skybar. It’s a rooftop bar right on the waterfront on Lakeshore/Jarvis (above Government).
Ali’s boyfriend is a DJ (google Never Not House…) and he was DJing at Skybar last night (click here to see pictures of the bar!) so we got in with no line and no cover which is always a bonus. The thing with this bar is that you get frisked before you go in. I’ve only ever had this happen to me once before, and it’s always awkward because I wear an insulin pump as you know. When the woman got to my “breast area” she felt my pump and I had to explain that I was not hiding a gun in my bra, that it was actually just a medical device. It’s always a touch embarrassing for a few moments, but then I got a drink.
And then I got another drink...
And then I got another drink…
Ali, Sarah, Marina, Me (I'm wearing flats, they're all in HUGE
heels...)
You see where this is going. Thinking back to last night, I probably should have been a bit smarter about the whole thing. I haven’t had carbs all week although I did have carbs last night pre-drinking in anticipation of drinking. Earlier in the day however, I found myself a bit dehydrated (I get paranoid when my pee is dark yellow… it creeps me out, it’s also how I judge how hydrated I am… TMI? Sorry.) from sunbathing in the morning and just my lack of water consumption  in general yesterday. So anyways the point is that I should have paced myself better. I paced myself quite well when we were drinking here, but the little dinky drinks they give you at the bar go down fairly fast. A lot faster than they should.
So anyways, once Ali’s boyfriend got on stage to start DJing, we all got wrist bands to go on the stage, and we got bottle service, which made things a lot worse than they already were. The drinks were unbelievably strong and there came a point in the night, where I set my drink down and told CB I just needed to go. You know when you hit that point, and you just know it’s time to leave? I knew it instantly. We said our goodbyes, left the bar, got a hot dog and apparently Jamaican food (I don’t remember this) and went home. Now, it didn’t just go like this. I got a hot dog and usually I’m so in love with my hot dog when I have it, not last night. I gave it to CB in the cab and told him I didn’t want it. Between being silly drunk and my body being SO sore from the Kettlebell class yesterday, I remember just not wanting to hold onto the hot dog. Wow.
So today, I haven’t left the bed. I need to shower because we need to do groceries, but I don’t think I can walk to the shower let alone be in a huge store full of foods that I just DO NOT want to eat right now. I figure I’ll make some use out of my bed time and write a blog post, watch New Years Eve (on a side note, it’s so much fun watching this movie because it’s filmed in Manhattan, and I just saw the TGIFridays that we are at on one of our last days there…. I miss Manhattan), catch up on some social media that I’ve been slacking on and try to get this blog out there and more people reading it.

My friend Jonny and I last year... at Justin's
Pride Party... Beach theme!
I’ve also been thinking about my workouts coming up this week. This week I have beach volleyball on Monday and Tuesday night. It’s the first week we play 6’s in our summer league on Monday, and it’s our last game of spring 4’s on Tuesday. I’m kind of sad that it’s our last game of 4’s because we were getting really good as a team. I hope we continue to play with our team, because we work really well together. But what about all the other days? What workouts am I going to do? Usually when I play volleyball I also workout during my lunch. This week I’m in the office every single day so that means I can work out EVERY DAY this week! And I will need to double up on the workouts maybe because this coming weekend is one of my favourite weekends of the year, Pride weekend.

I’ve attended Pride for the past 5 years. My friend Alyssa (the one getting married who had the bridal shower that I went to) has a brother who hosts a huge pride party every year (this is his 7th time) and every  year it gets better and better. Last year I took CB to his party and it was a beach theme, Mirage I believe was the technical term, and he had his back yard filled with sand, he had a fire dancer and to top it off, he had a ton of food but he had… wait for it…. Candied bacon. Seriously. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever tried in your life. It’s basically small pieces of bacon covered in a candy coating. It’s so hard to explain, but I hope the bacon makes another appearance this year.

This year’s theme is “Hot Mess” so I plan on wearing a lot of sequins and glitter. I ordered a bronze sequined mini skirt off of eBay last week so it should arrive this week (I’m screwed if it doesn’t…) so I just need to figure out what to wear on top, how to do my makeup and figure out how to get my hair as big and crazy as possible.
Last year after this party I remember being in McDonalds at 5am…. It was intense.
Anyways, I’m going to attempt to crawl to the shower, and possibly find something to eat, which might be hard unless I get my butt to the grocery store. Damn you vodka, damn you.
Stay sweet.

My First Kettelbell Class.. But I'm Not Bitter

Good evening Beautiful,
Well, tonight’s my night alone, and I’m bitter. Not as bitter as I was all day, but still quite bitter (my workout cheered me up a bit, but more on that in a minute). That’s all I’m going to say about that because I don’t want to talk about how I’m not in London right now, visiting with a ton of old friends, and how I’m home alone, doing laundry and watching Shark Tank.
Tonight I went to my first Kettlebell class! It was at Bang Fitness on Queen and Bathurst here in Toronto, and my god, I almost died. Seriously. Let me start at the beginning. I walked there because at Queen and Bathurst good luck finding parking, and it’s like 4 blocks from me, so why not. It was a gorgeous walk! A warm breeze and tons of people out and about because of the amazing weather. I had to walk up Bathurst and once I hit Queen I had to go west about 50 meters. Well frig, I was in my workout clothes with a Lululemon jacket over my tank top and the people that were hanging out on the corner of Queen and Bathurst were…. Interesting. I was wearing sunglasses so I didn’t have to make eye contact with anyone, but to sum it up I wanted to get the eff out as quickly as possible.
I finally found the address, and went through the creepy door, and up the creepy (and very hot) stairs to the second floor where I saw “Bang Fitness!” on the door and went inside. There was a creeky little desk and all I could see was a super intense boxing ring. I had never been here before so I had no friggen idea what I was doing, and could only assume that it was like GoodLife and that I needed to pay my guest fee at this desk, so I stood there for a couple minutes till a random boxer came over and asked if I had questions. Well yes, sir… I’m here to give you money! He made me walk down a little hallway and made sure I removed my shoes beforehand. So I look up and see that the boxing area, and “Bang Fitness!” are two separate areas, and Bang Fitness is all turf, and tires, and kettle bells, and it reminded me of a CrossFit studio, they were even installing gymnastic rings.
Well crap, if I had known I would never have mentioned CrossFit in this gym. They’re very anti-crossfit there, but they do a lot of the moves that are in CrossFit. They even had a white board where people wrote their time. I’m not sure what to think of that, but alas if I go back, I will not mention CrossFit that’s for sure.
So I met a guy that was working, I can’t even remember his name, but he was very nice, asked about my kettlebell history (haha… very minimal), let me pay and allowed me to put my shoes back on. There were a couple other people working out, but most of them left once the kettlebell class started except for like 5 men. I was the only female in the whole place with the exception of the boxing ring… it was fun! I love hanging out with guys, it’s so much more relaxed and non-judgemental.
Anywho, I started by doing some foam rolling at the recommendation of the man whose name I can’t remember. I did my shin where I have the splints, then my quads, hamstrings, lower back and upper back, and I was good to go. The instructor (if you would call him that, he’s more like a trainer doing small group training) was a HUGE guy with a pony tail wearing flip flops. I was fairly intimidated and tried being funny, but he didn’t take to very many of my jokes, but he did laugh at my trucker mouth on occasion during this workout.
They only had two different sizes of kettlebells, 25kg and 35kg, so I went with the 25kg and THANK GOD I did. We started our warm up by swinging the bell side to side, then around our body one way, then the other, then a sort of “figure 8” through our legs. The workout was broken up into 3 parts, and each part was 3 rounds of 5 exercises lasting 1 minute each… I know, hard to picture, but it went like this (I’m going to write out everything, including the repeats, just so you can understand what I mean.
Group of Exercises #1
Round 1
Normal kettlebell swings through the legs for 1 minute
Shoulder Presses with the bell for 1 minute
Kettlebell swings alternating hands at the highest point for 1 minute
I can’t remember what this exercise was, but it lasted 1 minute
Horizontal jumps over the kettlebell for 1 minute
1 minute rest
Round 2
Normal kettlebell swings through the legs for 1 minute
Shoulder Presses with the bell for 1 minute
Kettlebell swings alternating hands at the highest point for 1 minute
I can’t remember what this exercise was, but it lasted 1 minute
Horizontal jumps over the kettlebell for 1 minute
1 minute rest

Round 3

Normal kettlebell swings through the legs for 1 minute
Shoulder Presses with the bell for 1 minute
Kettlebell swings alternating hands at the highest point for 1 minute
I can’t remember what this exercise was, but it lasted 1 minute
Horizontal jumps over the kettlebell for 1 minute
2 minute “intermission” (we only got one of these)
Group of Exercises #2
Round 1
Kettlebell touchdown/row (squat until the bell touches the ground and move up quickly, with the momentum you bring the bell up to shoulder height holding it with both hands) for 1 minute
Backward lunges holding the bell at shoulder height for 1 minute
I can’t remember the name of this exercise, but it’s like the row, only you use the momentum to bring the bell all the way up over your head and repeat for 1 minute **
One hand rows (like the two handed one, but you alternate hands after every rep) for 1 minute
Plank over top of the bell doing 1 hand touches for 1 minute
1 minute rest
Round 2
Round 3
Kettlebell touchdown/row (squat until the bell touches the ground and move up quickly, with the momentum you bring the bell up to shoulder height holding it with both hands) for 1 minute
Backward lunges holding the bell at shoulder height for 1 minute
I can’t remember the name of this exercise, but it’s like the row, only you use the momentum to bring the bell all the way up over your head and repeat for 1 minute **
One hand rows (like the two handed one, but you alternate hands after every rep) for 1 minute
Plank over top of the bell doing 1 hand touches for 1 minute
** I had to use chalk during this exercise, and I felt so intense, it was awesome!
Then we did what’s called “Tabata”… It was 8 rounds, 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest and we did kettlebell swings moving 1 step forward and 1 step back.
I was so exhausted after this workout; I had to lay on the turf for a little bit. I definitely got my money’s worth tonight. Then the hard part, the walk down the stairs and then home. My arms are seriously shaking still. I got home and had a protein shake instantly. Then made this delicious yet extremely boring dinner….
And now I’m finishing the laundry and sipping on my “Sexy” vino and writing… all in all, not a bad night after all. A super lame night, but fairly productive. But I’m not bitter..
Stay sweet.

YEAH PARTY!

Good evening Beautiful,
Do you live in Toronto? Do you see this massive storm that’s brewing outside? Holy Hannah! It rolled in really quickly, but I’m glad it’s finally raining after a week of extreme temperatures and humidity.
Today went by really quickly for me and I am pooped, so a thousand apologies for this being short. I did Angie today like I said I would, and I beat my previous time by a minute!! I noticed that I could perform my squats a lot faster than last time and that’s probably where I made up some time. I also used less weight to help me with my pull-ups which is good. I could definitely tell they were harder, people were probably looking at me like I was in tremendous pain while completing the pull-ups…  Also, I find that I’m very weak when it comes to the crunches part of the workout. Oh – for those not familiar with Angie, it’s this:
100 pull-ups
100 push-ups
100 sit-ups
100 squats
I did it in 18:22 today; I did it in 19:41 last time. Anywho, yes, the crunches were killer. I don’t think I should be doing crunches just on the mat however…. I might start doing them on a stability pall to make the range of motion greater (therefore working the muscles more). After Angie I did 15 minutes of cardio. I wasn’t feeling like I wanted to do 30 minutes today so I did as much as I could handle (I was bored) and got off.
People in the office today were talking about Dairy Queen Blizzards, and it got me thinking, and then made me realize, not once in my life have I ever had a Blizzard. I’ve had a McFlurry before, a small, I can’t even finish those bad boys, but never a Blizzard. I don’t actually even remember ever going to a Dairy Queen. I grew up in a small town and the closest Dairy Queen was about 30 minutes from where I lived. Even when I finally made the move to the big city, I never went. Anyways, the point was that people at work were shocked that I had never had one, and then they suggested that we get Blizzards as a group someday. I piped up and said that I’ll bring in my Paleo Chocolate Coconut Milk ice cream that day. And then all started whining because the trip was specifically so I could have a Blizzard. Sorry guys! No ice cream for this gal…
I also realized today that I’ve never had a banana split. Is that strange?
Growing up being a diabetic and basically having been on a diet since I was 8 years old, I was never allowed to have that stuff. I had my first milkshake when I was 18 years old (they’re not all their cracked up to be, and I haven’t had one since then). When my family would get ice cream I was allowed to have a baby cone, and even that was frowned upon. I had to make my choices of ice cream wisely because it was a very rare treat for me.
Thinking back and growing up as a diabetic, it’s so strange how different my life was compared to everyone else. I’m not going to get into details, but the ice cream thing is basically how it was with any kind of junk food. A super little sliver of birthday cake at birthday parties. I had to make my own popsicles out of Crystal Light so they were sugar free. I could only have a certain amount of food at all of my meals and snacks, and if I wanted more I had to eat lettuce or cheese (no carbs in them). I also had to eat at the same time every day. How exciting. J
Ever since being on an insulin pump, it’s changed everything! I can eat however much I want, whenever I want. In some ways it’s been a test, and I started out very poorly. I gained a lot of weight when I first got my pump because I went buck wild with all of the foods I wasn’t allowed to eat for the previous 10 years. I ate my way up to almost 170lbs (keep in mind I’m 6 feet tall, so it’s not an insane weight, but not ideal for me). Lucky for me I’m back down to an “ok” weight for me, obviously still working towards my ideal!
I don’t know where this rant is going. My mind is totally wandering everywhere right now because I’m tired.
I can’t tell you how badly I wanted to make Raman noodles for dinner tonight. So easy, so delicious, so full of those amazing delicious carbs. I have meatballs cooking in the oven and I plan on eating my leftover squash with it. I didn’t cave – go Sarah! I’ve been so paleo this week it’s been great!
Tomorrow CB is going to London for “guys time” which is super lame and I hate it because London my second favourite city, it’s home to my favourite bar and I know a ton of people there so I’m a touch bitter I’m not going/invited (probably another reason my blog is short today) so I’m going to take out my anger in a kettlebell class tomorrow night after work. YEAH PARTY! Then I’ll probably blog, read, watch tv, drink wine, all alone. YEAH PARTY!
Oh look, the sky is clearing… time for me to go check on my meatballs. Have a great night!
Stay sweet.

Your Stomach Shouldn't Be A Waste Basket

Good evening Beautiful,
It feels like it’s been forever since I last wrote a blog. It’s been since Monday. I’ve been busy… but it’s been great! I love when my weeks fly by, it means that it doesn’t feel too long until the weekend! Do you have any fun things planned? Any workouts? Any recipes you’re going to try and make this weekend? If so – leave me a comment and tell me about it! I love hearing about you guys!
Currently, I’m well, writing, and sipping on some vino while watching Dexter. See?
Writing, Wine, BB.. My life.

This rose wine is called “sexy”. Guess why I bought it?
J I love buying wines with cool looking bottles, or funny labels or names. Same with vodka when I buy it. I love trying new flavours, having fancy bottles in my cabinet, or just a fun type of vodka. There’s a bottle of vodka I’ve been dying to get, it’s Roberto Cavalli vodka, and it’s about $70. I need to get some random large sum of money in order to justify buying it. But doesn’t it look heavenly? I think so.
Today I didn’t workout. I know, I know… but I did something super cool which is really outside of my box. I did a presentation today at Canadian Tire about GoodLife and what we can offer their employees through their Corporate Membership Program. I knew I was doing this presentation since…. two-ish weeks ago and when I first found out I had to do it, I was freaking out. I hate public speaking, I’ve never been good at it. I was one of the kids in school that wrote out her entire speech on cue-cards and read it off the cards word-for-word as fast as I could and rushed to my seat as soon as it was over. Today was a bit different however. I’ve been with GoodLife for almost 5 years, and I’ve been in the fitness industry for 7. It’s the one thing in my life that I know more than anything. I had our standard PowerPoint Presentation with bullet points, so I went through it one time with my boss, and then one time by myself, and thought “I’m so not prepared for this. Oh my god – I know I’m going to really suck, this is so disappointing because I know I can do better.”. So I went into the board room, plugged in my laptop and waiting for the employees to arrive.
I’m not even kidding you when I say that only 2 men showed up for my presentation. I knew there weren’t going to be a ton of people there, I got old 10ish people, but two people? It was crazy! It was more of a conversation than a presentation. Because there was only 2 people, it didn’t open up the opportunity for a ton of questions or comments, but I worked with what I had and the presentation lasted for about 30 minutes in total. BUT – it went really well! I was interactive, I didn’t stumble my words (a lot), I used hand gestures, it was fabulous! Ah I’m so excited with how it turned out! Maybe next time my audience will be 5 people!
Back onto the workout topic. I did succeed in a workout yesterday! It was… ok…. I went into the workout thinking I would totally destroy my back. It didn’t quite pan out that way, because when I was done my workout, none of my muscles were tired except for my legs. My workout went like this (I might have left something out, but you’d never know either way):
2 sets of assisted pull-ups.
- first rep with 70lbs of help, second set with 75, but I only got to 6 reps instead of 10 like the first set. Clearly I fatigued my muscles during those sets!
2 sets of back extension on the machines, 165lbs, 20 reps the first set, 17 reps the second.
2 sets of cable cross pull-overs, 10 reps both times, 10lbs on each pulley.
2 sets of back extension bench using my body weight, 20 reps both times
2 sets of cable rows, should level to work posterior deltoid, 10 reps each, 15lbs on each side.
Walked on the treadmill at an incline of 10 for 30 minutes.
I really did think that this workout was going to be harder than it was. I didn’t do lat pulldown, or seated row which are usually staples in my back workout. I’m not sure why it never occurred to me to do those, maybe because I do them all the time. I was disappointed with this workout, but it’s better than not working out at all. The walk on the treadmill at the end was the hardest part! I was sweating like crazy, it felt amazing.
Tomorrow I plan on doing a CrossFit workout, possibly Angie again since I’ve done it before, I want to see if I can beat my previous time! Good idea, Angie it is! Remember the workout I did on Monday? You can read about it in the post below, but my quads are STILL sore from it! What a great workout that was!! I WILL be doing that one again, at least once/week. It felt awesome, and call me crazy but for some reason I think my legs already look better. Ha!
This week has been AMAZING in terms of my diet. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seriously debated cheating with a custard tart (my favourite EVER and they cost $1.99 at the store in my building, so painful not eating them constantly) but have walked out of the store so quickly before I could purchase one. I’ve been eating a lot of cabbage (I love red cabbage, it’s so strange) but tonight was my favourite paleo meal I’ve made in a while. For the past two days I’ve been eating up the coconut chicken I made on Monday, but tonights meal kicked some serious ass. I made spaghetti! With a spaghetti squash, spaghetti sauce (I admit to not making my own this time….) and ground beef and garlic.
I started by baking the spaghetti squash for an hour at 375degrees in a roasting pan. Make sure to poke the squash all over before baking so it doesn’t explode. Take it out after an hour and let it cool. Once you can handle it, cut it horizontally in half. It should look like this:
Step 1
Then scoop out the “guts” which include the seeds and the bit of stuff surrounding the seeds. Then take a fork, and simply scrape the “spaghetti” out of the squash and into a plate, it will look like this:
Step 2
Then top with your sauce and meat, and taa daa!
Done!
dislike pasta. I’ve never liked pasta, even my pre-paleo days. I would take rice over pasta ANY day, for as long as I live, so naturally I’ve never been a huge fan of spaghetti and would only ever eat it if it was made for me. This spaghetti with squash however, was unreal. I didn’t feel bad because it was almost like eating a salad with meat. I feel like I should be feeling disgusting right now, stomach full of pasta, but I feel great! I will be making this more often, which is great for CB because he loves spaghetti even though he uses real pasta.
This week, a friend of mine, Nicole, posted this picture on her Twitter (@NicoleMaeL for all you twitter users! She could use some followers…..) and I instantly put it as my BBM picture, my phone background and knew I needed to blog it.

How true is this? I know the person in the picture is a bit “sexy”, but this saying is totally my new moto. It can’t get any easier than this – your stomach is not a waste basket! What more do you need to know? That, and “anything that can’t go back is BAD for you, anything that WILL go bad is GOOD for you” and you should be good to go! I wanted to leave you with this and let it sink in.
What do you think of it? Tell me your thoughts, tell me your opinions!
Stay sweet.
xoxo
P.S. Did you get a chance to check out The Old Scholar? If not - check it out! You might find something you like :). Click on the picture on the right hand side of my blog and it will take you directly to the website, doesn't get much easier than that! :) Loooove you!

P.P.S I love Instagram, it's where all of my photos come from.

Go Cabbage! Also, I Ran!

Good evening Beautiful,
So I’m sitting here watching The Bachelorette (yes, I watch it) and wondering how to start this blog. What a perfect way to start the blog than with The Bachelorette! I’ve heard a ton of mixed opinions about this year’s Bachelorette, Emily Maynard. Personally, I think she’s so sweet and so kind and so beautiful but I know a lot of people find her annoying and fake. I actually bought myself a US Weekly because there was an article in the magazine about Emily and her past. I guess she had some work done before her original appearance on Brad Womak’s season of The Bachelor. In all honesty, I was somewhat relieved to know that she’s had worked done because I was convinced that she was actually born looking like a Barbie. I guess she also has a history of dating rich men. Her ex-finance that died in a airplane crash was apparently work $15 million dollars. After dating Brad (who owns a lot of different bars in the city where he’s from, I forget what it is) she dated a couple country music singers, then an NFL player before going on The Bachelorette. After reading that I’m kind of convinced that she’ll pick the race car driver Arie. Only time will tell I guess!
Today was a great day! I was super productive at work, I had some amazing paleo meals and I had an amazing workout. I’m going to start with my work out because I’m super excited about it. Today is the first day since my half-marathon and since my shin splints that I ran on the treadmill with ZERO pain! I didn’t push it, I only ran for about 15 minutes, and I did it like this…
Distance – Speed
0.0-0.1 – 3.0mph
0.1-0.2 – 4.0mph
0.2-0.3 – 5.0mph
0.3-0.4 – 6.0mph
0.4-0.5 – 7.0mph
0.5-0.6 – 8.0mph
0.6-0.7 – 9.0mph (this was seriously the fastest I could go, I was legitimately concerned I was going to fly off the back of the treadmill)
0.7-0.8 – 8.0mph
0.8-0.9 – 7.0mph
0.9-1.0 – 6.0mph
1.0-1.1 – 5.0mph
1.1-1.2 – 4.0mph
1.2-1.3 – 3.0mph
My friend Keely did one of these runs and blogged about it and then I stole it. Thanks for the idea Keely! I can’t explain to you how it felt to start running, and feeling so worried that I was going to start limping because of my shin splint, and then it not hurting at all. I was actually a bit worried that I’d tweek it and somehow hurt it again, so it’s all I could think about while running is to have perfect form the whole time.
After that run I decided to try and destroy my legs, so I did 10 sets of 10 reps of squats, lunges (5 on each side) and plié squats so I did 100 of each. I also decided I’d hold two 10lbs dumbbells while doing these. So not only did I do 200 squats in total, and 100 lunges in total while holding an extra 20 lbs. My legs were like jelly and I really had to concentrate when walking down the stairs and walking up the stairs, and basically anything. Hopefully I’m not sore tomorrow…
It’s been over a month since I’ve run, and I’m 100% not use to it anymore. With running, you lose your endurance so quickly, it’s unbelievable. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this recently but it’s definitely been on my mind. The day after I did my half-marathon, I registered for the Toronto 10-miler which is about a 16 kilometer run that goes through the distillery district here in Toronto the weekend before my companies Awards Gala and a huge fitness conference (canfitpro) that I’m attending. I’ve committed to doing this race, which means I need to start training ASAP, which also means I need some new shoes. I had a training program for the 16km race since the half-marathon ended, so as of now for my long runs I should be doing 15km. SHIT. I’m supposed to run 7km tomorrow, and I think I’m going to, regardless of the weather, I have to. It will be very, VERY interesting to see how many times I need to stop to walk. But I can do this, if I train hard and be strict with my diet, I can totally do this. It’s only 16km, I should be able to do this in under 2 hours. I will update you tomorrow on my run. Oy vay.
As for my lovely diet today, well my breakfast and lunch were pretty basic. (I measured/weighed everything like normal, but I won’t bore you with those details).
Breakfast
1 chicken breast with the bone in but I took the skin off
carrots
2 hard-boiled eggs
Snack
pistachio nuts, roasted and salted
Lunch
1 chicken breast with the bone in but I took the skin off
cherry tomatoes
cucumber
organic salad dressing on my veggies
Post-workout Snack
1 vanilla protein shake. I, unfortunately, forgot my own protein so I had to buy a protein shake. I remember it only having 1g of sugar (which probably means there was some artificial sweeteners in it which I hate) and 4g of carbs.
Dinner
This is where I got creative. I decided to make coconut chicken nuggets! These are the ingredients I used:

I also cooked some butternut squash and had some raw purple cabbage. I love cabbage so much, it’s almost a bit strange. I could just eat it, plain and raw every day, and I might because I had no idea how cheap it was. Go cabbage! I love mixing up dinners and meals in general. It keeps life interesting, don’t you agree? This is what dinner looked like right before I ate it!

Mmm… I know that’s what you’re thinking. To be honest, I think there’s something missing from the coconut chicken. I’m not sure if it’s salt, or spice or what the heck it is…. Leave it with me, and I’ll figure it out.
Also, I’d like to point you to the direction of The Old Scholar badge I have on the right hand side of my blog. The Old Scholar and I have teamed up to bring all my readers out there 10% off your purchase with the promo code “ohm” (my last name!). It’s actually a pretty cool deal! They ship to anywhere in the world (that means they ship directly to you!) and they have some amazing products from some new up and coming designers. I’ve checked out everything on the website and so far I’ve spent my next three paycheques… no big deal! I strongly recommend you swing by the website and at least check it out, sign up for their newsletter if you like their products, so you’ll be the first to see the new products that they post. They’re changing their website in about three months because they’re going to have SO much new product that the current website can’t handle! Get in while you can!
My friend Alyssa who had the bridal shower on Sunday has a brother who every single year has the best Pride party, hands down. This year’s theme is “hot mess” and I’m trying to locate a sequined mini skirt to wear to the event that I don’t need to spend a bajillion dollars on. I’ve been looking on eBay and need to pull the plug really soon because Pride is in 2 weeks… So much for my goal of not buying clothes until July. Maybe I’ll post on facebook my need for a mini skirt, sequined, that fits my behind. J
Wish me luck tomorrow!
Stay sweet.

Wingham Visit & My Top 30 Driving To The Country Songs

Good evening Beautiful,
I just returned to my home in civilization after my weekend in the boonies. It was a fun weekend! I could have used a little less driving because it makes me so tired, but all in all it was a good trip. Dad and I had some amazing mussels (ANDREA! I spelled it correctly this time! Look at me go….), he BBQd the family steak and potatoes for dinner last night and it was so delicious. I ate so much. We had a campfire and I roasted hot dogs in true paleo tradition, and roasted them spider dog style so they looked cool and were more fun to eat obviously. This is what mine looked like…
Cool, huh?
Today I had lunch with my Grandma. We went to a popular restaurant in Wingham called The Maitland and holy crap, I never realized how cheap it was to eat in Wingham. A meal of two pork chops, potatoes, veggies, soup or juice and coffee or tea was $12. I paid $10.25 for ONE beer on Friday night at the Blue Jays game…. It doesn’t make sense, but it was amazing to have lunch because well, $40 for 4 people to eat 4 full meals is pretty amazing.
I went to Alyssa’s bridal shower and it was the first time I had ever been to a bridal shower before. I surprised Alyssa because she didn’t know I was coming up for it! That part was nice. We started off by making a scrap book page for her, thank god I found like 8 different pictures of her and I and our old friends so my page was packed full of pictures. It was awesome.
Then we played a game of bingo where I won some candy, which I ate. Not paleo nor good in any form… I mean, it was delicious, but shit, I should have taken the laundry bag or ice cream scoop or something. After our game of Bingo, we played The Price Is Right with cleaning supplies. I lost. Shocking that I don’t know the prices of cleaning products. Then was the fun game of Make A Wedding Dress Out Of Toilet Paper. Thank god I got to be the model. Our dress unfortunately did not win. I was second out of 3, the girl who won first only won because she was like 12 years old…. And Alyssa can’t play fair and gave it to the little girl. I already told Alyssa she owes me a drink in two weeks when she’s in Toronto for Pride Weekend. She agreed. Glad we’re on the same page J.
On the drive back from Wingham, I thought I’d risk my life and snap a few photos of where I grew up. Well, the drive sort of. There are lots of the following…
A lot of different farms. This is one example.

A lot of Amish people. There were more than usual
today since they were coming home from church.
A lot of fields...

And I usually have all of these on shuffle. I literally sing whenever I`m in the car, and after 2.5 hours of driving each way, my throat is a little dry. Also, I`m sure a lot of people on the highway got a good show. I probably actually sound horrible, but to me I`m basically the next Shania...

I stuck to my diet pretty well this weekend with the exception of the candy. I was STARVING when I first got there, and  so I slipped into the grocery store before we went to meet my dad at the Wingham Legion, and I got myself a banana and some slices of turkey. Dinner was salad, steak and potatoes. Breakfast/Lunch at the restaurant was sausages, potatoes and salad. Then the lame candy. Then at the shower they had Sundae’s, but I opted for some frozen fruit that they had for toppings sans ice cream and had water instead of punch. On the way home I snacked on a bit of beef jerky. Not too bad!
Tomorrow I’m back in the gym HARD. I’m thinking about doing some intervals on the treadmill and see how my shin splints are doing. I’m a bit nervous since I haven’t ran in a few weeks and I don’t want it to hurt, but I really want to start running again. Right after I finished my half-marathon I registered for another 16km race the weekend before my awards gala. I’m still registered for said race, which means I should probably start training at some point. Oy vey. I will definitely let you know if my leg hurts, fingers crossed and PLEASE wish me luck!
How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? The MMVA’s are tonight which I had originally planned on going to, but it’s so disgustingly hot and sticky outside, I’m opting to pain my nails and creep Pinterest instead.
Stay sweet.
xoxo
