Food Journal Giveaway WINNER & Some J76CW Love!

Good evening Beautiful,
First off – I want to start by announcing the awesome Food Journal giveaway WINNER!! And the drum roll pleeeeease……..
Wendy Beauchamp from Pink Fit!
Congrats Wendy!! You have 48 hours to email me at sarah.ohm@hotmail.ca with your shipping details so we can get this food journal to you ASAP!  This has been such a fun giveaway, and I’m so glad I got to share one of my most favourite tools for fitness and health! Please let me know once you receive it, and how you like it! I would love your feedback!
Thank you to everyone who participated in my food journal giveaway! It’s been so much fun. I have a new giveaway to tell you about tomorrow or Thursday, so make sure you come back and get the details!
Today I did my second TRX boot camp session. I will be the first to admit that it was A LOT harder than the first session and thank god! I was very happy with this session, there were even a few times when I found myself laying on the floor gasping for breath – it was AWESOME. From what I can remember (my mind was elsewhere today for some reason, I was a bit tired going into this workout, so I wasn’t paying full attention, I just did what I was told) this is what the workout looked like:
…. You know what, I really can’t remember everything we did, but we did A LOT. Some things included mountain climbers, AMRAP of squats for a minute, 1-legged squats, and lots of planks. It was awesome J.
So as you may have read in a past post, I received some free clothes from J76CW and may have noticed their logo on the right hand side of my blog. Well I finally got around to snapping some photos of me wearing their crops! I like their clothing because they’re good for lounging around the house in as well as getting your sweat on in. I got C to snap some photos of me wearing them…

La dee da! I also decided today I wanted to do my #plankaday outside because it was so warm out after the crazy thunderstorm we had today. I wore my J76CW crops out on our balcony and got C to come down with me (he’s so great!) to snap some photos. This is how it turned out!

I managed to hold it for 1:58 today. I also wanted to extend a huge thank you to J76CW for sending me some clothing samples to wear and try out, and review on my blog! They most definitely did not have to do this, but I’m very glad they did. If you want to check them out – just simply click the logo on the right hand side of my blog. They’re 100% Canadian made and they run their business mainly out of Vancouver, BC. They’re sizes fit 1 size smaller than normal clothing (so I’m a size 6 in their clothing when I’m normally a size 8 – SCORE!) and they even have bamboo clothing! I have a dress that’s made out of bamboo that they have generously sent me but I haven’t been able to wear it yet. Stay tuned though, I’m sure I will be going somewhere I can wear it soon!
Check out tonight’s dinner – I’m really excited, cornish hens with roasted potatoes, rosemary and garlic and a side of steamed broccoli. I love Cornish hens and we hardly ever have them so you can understand why I would be so excited… and look at how delicious they look!
Before it was cooked

After it was cooked!
What are you having for a healthy Tuesday dinner tonight?
Stay sweet.

Monday Goal Check-In

Good evening Beautiful,

This is going to be short and sweet!

I said I was going to blog everyday this week to make sure I stay on track with this week's fitness goals, so here is check-in number 1.

Today I worked from home which made getting in a morning workout a little bit easier since I didn't have to take the 20-40 minutes (depending on the day) to get to work. I woke up, downed some coffee and made my way down the elevator to the condo gym. I did a quick upper body workout:

Pec Dec, 60lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Lat Pulldown, 50lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Push-ups on toes, bodyweight, 3 sets, 10 reps
One arm dumbbell row, 25lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Dumbbell bicep curl, 15lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Cable high one arm row, 30 lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Cable bicep curl, 60lbs, 3 sets, 10-10-8 reps
Tricep pressdown, 40lbs, 3 sets, 15-15-12 reps
Dumbbell lateral raise, 5lbs, 3 sets, 20-17-15 reps

Then I did my #plankaday challenge and only held it for 1:09 today, my record so far is 2:08... My arms were quite tired after my workout and holding the plank was hard.

Then I ran for 10 minutes on the treadmill.

I took one of my clients out for lunch today. We went to E11even inside the Real Sports building by the ACC. My client had been many times he told me, and this was a first for me. I was really excited, I love trying new restaurants in Toronto. E11even is a touch expensive for what you get, but the food was VERY delicious. We both ordered the Seared Tuna Salad and a drink. The salad had mixed greens, red onions, cucumber, mango and topped with ginger, it came with three different dressing on the side and a "serving" of seared tuna. The tuna was the best part, and the smallest part. Seared around the outside and basically raw on the inside, dipped in Soy sauce (not paleo, I know...) and it was like butter in my mouth, it just melted, and I melted the first time I tasted it.

It was actually very fun getting to know one of my clients on a more personal level, rather than exchanging emails and phone calls all of the time. I could do it more often if I got paid for it ;). Just kidding, but it was a really fun experience. I got a tour of his office/roof top terrace, and learned a lot about him (He lived in Amsterdam when he was 20 to do professional cycling! Cool huh?).

Then I played volleyball tonight. I have to admit, I wasn't REALLY excited about it tonight because I was pooped from my hard day of schmoozing the big wig at CI Investments (ha.) but I got up the motivation to hit the beach. It was so hot! I was sweating just warming up! Unfortunately we didn't win any of our games but came really close every single time. We played together as a team, and played well. I love going out and playing volleyball just for fun. I don't go out with the expectation that we're going to dominate every game, but that's also not why I signed up. There are some people on my team that get really stressed and competitive when we lose, and it's kind of annoying. I just want to relax and have fun and make some friends in some friendly competition. I don't care whether I win or lose, it's just fun!

That's my rant for the day.

BY THE WAY! It's less than 24 hours until my giveaway closes. Have you entered? If not - YOU MUST do the following :)

This Week's Workout Goals

Good evening Beautiful,
I hope you had a great weekend!! I had a fun weekend, but I have to admit something….. I didn’t work out at all, and I wasn’t strict with my diet. FAIL. My company’s Awards Gala is about 3 weeks away (it’s the same weekend as the Toronto canfitpro conference!) and I need to crack down… HARD! I have some plans, and I’m telling you NOW so that I don’t stray away from them. It’s a lot easier to make and keep a goal when it’s written down and real, so before I dip into the highlights of my weekend, my goals for this coming week in terms of fitness and diet are:
Monday – workout twice, upper body in the AM/Lunch and 1.5 hours of beach volleyball in the PM. My food is already prepped and ready to go. I’m taking one of my clients out for lunch downtown tomorrow at E11even, and I’ve already looked over the menu and have decided on a steak salad for lunch, it seems reasonable.
Tuesday – I have a TRX session in the afternoon, and nothing once I get home from work, so I’m going to aim to do 30 minutes of just cardio in my condo gym since I’ll be doing a full bodyweight workout for my muscles during TRX. I’m back in the office on Tuesday for the rest of the week, and I like that because I’m really strict with my diet when I’m in the office. I only eat what I prepare in advanced to take, and prepping in advanced makes me feel healthy so I only ever take paleo friendly foods to work with me.
Wednesday – I have another TRX session in the afternoon, so I’m aiming to do another 30 minutes of cardio when I get home from work. I don’t ever do more than 30 minutes, because when you do more than 30 minutes of cardio it starts to break down muscle, which is the complete opposite of what I’m trying to do! So 30 minutes is my go-to number!
Thursday – I will be working out on my own at the club during my lunch break. I’m not going to commit to a specific workout quite yet, because 1. I’m not sure what workouts we’re doing in TRX on either day, and 2. I’m not sure how sore I’m going to be after 2 days of TRX. Hopefully only either the top half or the bottom half of me is sore so I can work the other parts.
Friday – My 3rd TRX session of the week. I’m only committing to one workout today because I know myself and on Fridays when I get home from work, I tend to curl up in bed and either read, or watch Dr. Phil, or do both. So I’m going to try and ask my coach to make the TRX class really hard for me, or I’m just going to do more reps on my own while everyone else does the normal amount.
Saturday & Sunday – The weekends for me area ALWAYS so hard. I always go into them with the best of intentions, and end up failing miserably. This weekend for example, I didn’t break a sweat once. That’s a lie. It was hot outside and I did sweat a little bit due to the sun, but that doesn’t count. So I’m going to say that I 100% will get at least 1 workout in over the weekend but I’m AIMING for 2 (or 3 because it’s the long weekend!).
And there you have it, my goals, written down for you all to read and hold against me. Perfect! I guess this means a blog post every day this week to let you guys know how I’m managing to keep up with my goals! I love this blog for that reason, I know A TON of people read this so I don’t want to let you down!
Ingredients for a chocolate martini!
My weekend was a fun weekend, fairly relaxing. Friday night I didn’t do anything except make myself a chocolate martini and continue reading 50 Shades Darker (the second book). Saturday was nice because in the morning I met up with my friend Marina and we went to the mall, had brunch (and a mimosa!) and did some shopping. Thank god she was with me. I seriously have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to 1. Beauty products and 2. Hair products. Marina is a former hair dresser so she knows all the beauty tips and tricks. I was pretty committed to buying a Chanel lipstick because I’ve seen so many people use it and haven’t heard back things about it, but I’m also quite new to the whole “lipstick fad” so she convinced me to leave the Bay and go to shoppers and purchase some Smashbox tinted lip gloss samples. She’s so smart; I got 5 different lip glosses for the price of 1 Chanel lip gloss.
My original plan for going to the mall was to find a dress for my aforementioned Awards Gala. No such luck. I did find a few I found cute, but I wasn’t sold on them yet so I didn’t buy. I did however manage to stalk up on some H&M tank tops. I love H&M tank tops. For $7, you CAN’T go wrong. Check out this stripped one I got…. Oh, I’m also sipping on a nice rose wine. J.

The shirt is so pretty and neon pink. Perfect for summer time!
This afternoon, C and I went to see The Dark Knight Rises. It was AMAZING! I actually almost cried at the end, it was emotional! But the whole movie was really intense, in a good way. I’d definitely recommend. It.
What did you do this weekend?

Don't forget to enter the food journal giveaway! It's almost over!

First Day of TRX! My New Motivation!

Good evening Beautiful,
I’m pooped. Today was the 1st of my 12 TRX sessions. I have to admit, I was mentally prepared for a much harder workout than what was given to us. By the end of the actual workout part, I had just gotten warm to the point of a little bit of moisture was forming on my forehead, nothing super intense. At the very end of the workout we did some baseline testing. The trainer put a beep timer on to beep every count in a 65 bpm time. The first exercise we had to do was an Atomic Push-up. Every movement was to the 65bpm time. They look like this..
.. I ended up doing 15 of them, not too shabby! I was aiming for 20 (the goal at the end is 40), but I came pretty close. I thought I had did 17, but I didn’t go down in my push-up portion for some of them so the trainer didn’t count them. I was kind of annoyed because when I didn’t do one right, he wouldn’t say anything, so I didn’t actually know until the end that I had only completed 15. Burn.
The next exercise we had to do was a TRX Low Row. This is basically like a body weight row, almost completely parallel to the floor. For me, this was the hardest exercise to accomplish, but I’d like to point out that I did do an entire TRX workout beforehand as well as demonstrated TWICE my “Almost Pull-up” (I can do this without jumping, and pulling myself up until my elbows are at 90 degrees. I’ve come a long way!). Anyways, this is a TRX Low Row…
… I did 8 to the 65bpm count. I was kind of bummed out that I didn’t hit 10, but hopefully by the end of my training I’ll get to 10, and maybe even moreJ.
The next test we did was TRX Lunges on each leg. I was kind of stupid because I knew this was part of the testing and I did a leg workout yesterday. Oh well, it is what it is. The test requires your back leg to be in the suspension trainer, and your front leg on the floor obviously. You need to lunch until your back knee hits the floor, and that counts as one. To keep up with the time, basically each down and each up is 1 second. It’s pretty fast when you’re balancing on one leg! I did my left leg first, and managed to push out 19 reps, and then my right leg I managed to push out 23 reps. This is what the lunges look like….
I’m excited to see what I’ll be able to do at the end of it.
The last test we had to do was hip raises. We weren’t allowed to move our feet forward, and weren’t allowed to touch our bums on the floor in between reps. They look like this…

…. I managed to do 34 reps. Again, not bad, but I was hoping to hit that 40 mark.
The point to all of this is I’m tired!! The testing of this really wiped me out. Also, my afternoon dragged on because I usually do my workouts around 2pm, but today I had to do it at 12. We also decided as a group that we’d like to do the 12 sessions over 4 weeks, rather than 6 and train 3 times per week instead of 2. I’m down for this; I just hope that my other training isn’t compromised. Not that I have a specific training schedule, but I do enjoy the serenity of working out on my own!
So I’ve been lazy/a bum/silly with my diet this week. I’m not sure why exactly, but I haven’t been caring as much about what I eat. Don’t get me wrong… I still eat extremely healthy most of the time (today for example, brussel sprouts and chicken breast for breakfast, and a big colourful salad with chicken for lunch, fruit for snack and a protein shake after my workout) but yesterday after we picked up our car, we weren’t en route home until about 9pm and I hadn’t ate since about 3pm. We stopped at Subway and I kid you not, I completely devoured a foot long Subway Melt with extra bacon and extra cheese. Seriously! I actually ordered EXTRA dairy and bacon. The worst part is that it was soooooooooo satisfying. My mouth is watering thinking about how badly I want another one. I love Subway; it’s my “fast food” of choice. I worked there for 3 years as a teenager and never once did I get sick of it.
Anyways, I promised I’d be honest on here, and there you have it; my kryptonite and my awful dinner last night. Normally I’d come home, quickly cook up some meat and nuke some frozen veggies. Not last night! J No one is perfect right?
So the new car is AWESOME. It’s so fun to drive, so nice to ride in. It’s so unbelievably smooth, driving it feels like slicing a hot knife through butter (I swear). It’s so much fun, my phone is linked to the blue tooth in the car, so once I dropped C off at work today I called him and chatted just to use the phone feature! I also found a really great country station on XM Radio, and tonight I found another amazing station, it’s called Seriously Sinatra, and it has all of the awesome classic singers that I love. I didn’t listen to it for long, but I got some Louis Armstrong and some Ella Fitzgerald when I was listening. I instantly programmed that into button number 5.

My pretty bag :)
The car doesn’t actually come with keys. It’s a really neat feature. So if my keys are at the bottom of my giant Michael Kors Hamilton Bag, I don’t have to search for them. The car recognizes that I’m around and when I touch the car handle, it will automatically unlock. Once I’m in the car, I just press a button and it starts, and we’re off! If I were to throw said Hamilton Bag into the trunk with my keys in it, the car recognizes that my keys are in the trunk, will make a quick double beep and re-open the trunk, not allowing me to lock my keys in my trunk. ISN’T THAT THE COOLEST EVER?!
So, I have this thing where I like expensive things. I know, it’s bad… and most recently, I’ve decided that I want a Marc Jacobs watch. A gold Marc by Marc Jacobs Rivera watch. Please see photo and you will understand why I want it. I’ve never worn a watch before; I’ve also never owned such a gorgeous watch before. If I had this, I’d wear it ALL THE TIME. I told myself that when I pay off my credit card, I will treat myself to this watch. Probably on my credit card again, but at least the rest of it will be paid off. Mmm… what more motivation could a girl need to do something? J. With that being said, I do need new running shoes. Hmmm, priorities. I’ll figure it out eventually. Watch trumps shoes J.
Guys – I know how much I hound you, but there is LESS than 1 week left in my Food Journal giveaway. Have you entered yet? If not, why not? Do you not want to own this magnificent tool to help you reach your fitness and nutrition goal? I swear to you all, I use mine religiously and I love it. It holds me accountable to every flipping thing I put in my mouth, and it can’t even speak to me and tell me not to do it. Here’s all you need to do to enter.

Photo Shoot Recap

Good evening Beautiful,
TOMORROW WE GET THE NEW CAR!! I’m really excited – can you tell? J
This week has been somewhat productive. I got a TON of work done yesterday, work my upper body workout in, played an hour and a half of beach volleyball in the crazy heat and came home to broken air conditioning. You can only image how amazing last night’s sleep was, as in not at all. Today I did a lot of work again, but I had to forego my workout. My one goal this week was to work out every single day…
If I double up on a workout on another day, does that make up for it?
The reason I didn’t work out today was because I had a photo shoot tonight and had to be at my friend/photographers house for 6, so I knew I wouldn’t have time to get home, shower AND get to her house for 6, so I didn’t get sweaty so I didn’t have to shower. Genius plan! However, by the end of the day I was so foggy and couldn’t concentrate. Lunch time workouts are great for getting your head back into the game!
My diet hasn’t been amazing this week. Both nights I ate rice with dinner, and today I ate Bounty, those chocolate covered coconut bars… it was SO GOOD and I thought I deserved a treat since I haven’t had one in a while. So I ate that on my way to Tara’s house.
The photo shoot was REALLY fun, though it was 100% different than the first photo shoot we did together… these are some examples of the last photo shoot we did together…

… Tonight’s photo shoot had somewhat of an “Alice in Wonderland” theme to it. It was dark and mysterious. When I got to Tara’s house, she held out a really long, black dress that she wanted me to wear. I was totally down to wear it, and of course the dress was two sizes smaller than my size because Tara is the more petite person you can ever meet. So I go into her washroom, stretch the dress over my body, and needless to say, the slit in the side of it literally comes up to my hip and is wide open. We made our way down to her car, and I had a huge Lululemon bag covering up the slit (as best as I could) in case I ran into anyone on the way to the car. Luckily, I did not.
When we got to the scene of the photo shoot, it was like a mini parking lot behind an old industrial building in Liberty Village. There were like sections in the parking lot that have different mini-areas in it, it’s really cool, partly industrial, partly natural. She brought a lot of props and some amazing outfits and costume jewelry so when we got there, she showed me what I’d be wearing.
For the first “person” I was shooting, I was in the black dress and I tied my hair back very tight, and Tara has these black lace bunny ears with lace that covers your eyes. It’s creepy… but really neat! The second outfit was “Mad Hatter” and I wore a really cool, really old top hat, a fur vest and my hair was crazy under the hat. The third outfit was “The Queen”, and I wore this really old vintage white dress with a fur vest and a makeshift crown out of an old vintage necklace, and the last outfit was “Alice” and I was wearing a blue silk skirt as a dress, a denim vest, a huge gold necklace, my hair was in a bun on the top of my head and I had orange lips.

Here's what I looked like when I got home..

IT WAS SO COOL! I can’t wait to see the final photos and share some with you! You can check out other photos Tara's done by clicking on her badge on the right hand side of my page, it will take you directly to her website!
That’s all for tonight though folks, sorry this post is so short! What a crazy week…. I promise to write more next time! Love you guys!

Remember! One week from tonight my giveaway closes!! Make sure you enter, details below!

Should Have Nicknamed Me "Buzz-Killington"

Good evening Beautiful,
What a rainy day this has turned out to be! This weekend has been EVERYTHING I needed and more. These past few weeks have been extremely busy for me with work, and workouts, and blogging and socializing in real life and not online (J) and this weekend was SO low key! Friday night we stayed home, C BBQ’d some absolutely delicious steaks while I made some bacon wrapped scallops and mushrooms, it was a delicious protein packed dinner! We were both pretty exhausted so after I finished writing my last post, it was about 10:30 and we decided to go to bed. Seriously! C was really tired from his week-long “staycation” and I was just tired in general (although, not as tired as usual and could have stayed up much longer!).
On Saturday we had to go to the car dealership to sign off on the NEW RIDE and it just so happens that the dealership is right beside a Chapters. For those of you who don’t know me well, let me fill you in on a little secret… When I’m in Chapters, it’s like nothing else matters. It’s so unbelievable how happy I become inside this massive book store. It’s not just because most of them come with a Starbucks, but it’s the thousands upon thousands of different books. Some of them I will never know exist, but if I had all the time in the world, I would be one of those people who take a book off the shelf, park my rear end in one of their big leather chairs and I would sit there all day, sipping on my Grande Pike with Whipping Cream, and read book after book after book.
I’ve contemplated getting one of those e-readers before I got my iPad. However, even though I do have the option of purchasing books on my iPad and reading them on the screen, I would prefer not. I’m one of those geeks that likes to physically have the book on my shelf to see, and have it in my hand when I read. I like to see all of the books I’ve collected over the years and see how many I’ve read, and how many I’ve bought just to have. For me, when I buy a book I have to read the whole thing before I can buy another. Sometimes when I buy books online, I will buy two or three so I don’t have to pay for shipping, but I still manage to get through them all before I buy more. I absolutely love reading. It’s like a little escape from reality, into the lives of people I would never know. Take 50 Shades of Grey for example. Yes, I’m one of the bajillion people reading it right now, but when I get into this book, it’s like I’m ACTUALLY in the book, just watching everything happen from the sidelines. That sounds a bit creepy because of the contents of the book, but you know what I mean.
I should never have gone into Chapters because I wanted to buy everything. Nice new thank you cards, cards that are empty so I can write whatever I want in them… Cook books, biographies, fashion books, the 3rd book in the Grey trilogy, but I settled on a super geek book about social media and public relations. I’ve wanted to learn more about it for a while, so I bought a little book to hopefully learn some tips and tricks from.
ANYWAYS – the rest of Saturday was fun too, we hung out at home and I read a ton of 50 Shades of Grey and we met another couple we know, Adam and Katie down in the Distillery District for some drinks and dinner. We went to Mill St. Brewery for dinner and it’s always so fun. The Distillery District is all so old, the streets are all cobble stone, and they make their own beer in the pubs. I decided (stupidly) to order a Creamy Lobster with Avocado sandwich. I knew this was a bad mistake as soon as I had ordered it, and that I should have gone for the roasted beet salad with salmon. Don’t get me wrong, the sandwich and the whole meal was SO GOOD… but I felt like absolute ass for the rest of the night. I was so bloated from the bread and the creaminess of the lobster, it was all I could think about and I was so lame for the rest of the night. Seriously… I’ve hung out with Adam and Katie twice now, and I 100% think they think that I’m super lame after last night. Guys! If you read this – I’M NOT LAME!! After dinner, we went to The Firkin on King for some drinks. It was so fun because we were sitting on the patio right beside the entrance for another club, Brassaii, and we got to people watch all night. I had one damn drink when I was there, a cucumber mojito and it was awful, I think they used tonic water in it, and I absolutely hate tonic water… it tastes so bitter, so it took me 2 hours to finish one drink. You might as well have nicknamed me “Buzz-killington”. Oh well, I’m sure now that Katie and Adam live so close to us we’ll be going out with them more often. I’ll have to win them back next time J.
So as many of you know, I live in Toronto which is located in Ontario which is located in Canada. When I started this blog, I really wanted to make sure if I were ever to do product reviews, or any giveaways, that I either have used the product before, or the product is Canadian made. I have recently been given some samples from J76 Athletic Wear to have and to review on my blog (you can go directly to their website from their logo on the right hand side of my blog!). I agreed to do this because all of their clothes are made in Vancouver, BC, and because their clothes are actually really nice. I was provided with a workout tank, a pair of workout capris and a cotton dress. I like this company because they have a ton of workout gear but they also have casual wear that’s made from bamboo so that’s really cool! It’s been a pleasure working with them so far, they went to all lengths to ensure the products they provided me were the perfect fit for me, and the best part is that I take one size down from my normal size…. I LOVE THAT! J
So even though this weekend was super low key, I did manage to workout both days! It was in my dinky little condo gym, but it wasn’t busy so I got some good workouts in… Yesterday was upper body, and it went like this (I think… I didn’t write this workout down…):

Pec Fly, 60lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Lat Pulldown, 50lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Shoulder Press, 15lbs dumbbells, 3 sets, 10 reps
Bicep Curl, 60lbs (for 1 set on the cable machine, 10 reps), 15lbs dumbbells, other 2 sets, 10 reps
Tricep Pressdown, 50lbs (for 1 set, 10 reps), 40lbs, other 2 sets, 10 reps
Then I did 30 minutes on the upright bike, level 5 on “Hills” mode while reading 50 Shades of Grey (I contemplated doing more time so I could keep reading! J)
20 sit ups on the decline bench
20 leg lifts, 3 sets
20 side rotations holding 10lbs weight (I’m not sure what this is actually called, but when you lean back and move the weight to each side until they touch the ground), 3 sets
I was definitely really sweaty after this workout and it was awesome. I love getting soaked when I work out. For some reason whenever I go on the stepper, I get a wet mark in the middle of my workout top, right at the bottom of my sternum…. It looks really intense, but it feels gross. I don’t know how to prevent that? Anyways, today I did lower body, but it wasn’t a very intense workout, it was a workout to get me sweating and that’s exactly what I accomplished:
10 minutes on the upright bike as a warm-up
Squats holding 10lbs dumbbells, 10 sets of 10 reps
Walking lunges holding 10lbs dumbbells, 10 sets of 20 (10 per leg) reps
40 minutes on the upright bike while I read more 50 Shades of Grey J.
Today’s workout started my day out right because then we were SO productive for the rest of the day. We got all of the laundry done (and we had a lot), we got groceries, cleaned the condo… it was awesome!! I love days like this; it feels like I didn’t put the day to waste! Unfortunately, this morning C woke up with a massive ear ache so we had to cancel some dinner plans that we had which is unfortunate, but we did reschedule for next weekend. We’re going out for dinner on Saturday with my cousin, his wife, and two other couples (one of the girls is the interior designer from House of Bryan and Leave It To Bryan and Disaster DIY… Rebecca Purdy – do you know her?).
We decided when we were at the grocery store that we were going to make a roast tonight. It’s been a very long time since we’ve made a roast, and the roasts that C makes are unreal. He starts by seasoning the beef…

And then adds in the other fixings, red pearl onions, sweet potato and mushrooms…

And then it turns out looking like this. How badly do you wish you were eating my amazing paleo dinner tonight?

Somewhat Of A Bust Week... BUT Getting A New Car!

Good evening Beautiful,
It’s Friday night, I’m sitting on the couch, catching up on my blog reading and I decided to post a blog. This may be a short way so just be warned. I don’t think I have ever been more excited for a weekend than I am for this weekend. This week has been busy, it’s been intense, it’s just been a lot and I’m toast. I’m beyond excited to sleep until I want to, and not until an alarm wakes me up. I’m excited to mosey my way to the gym on my own time, and not rush because it’s my lunch break. I’m excited to soak up the sun on the patio in my building that is now open after about 3 weeks of it being closed, and I’m excited to have some drinks with a couple friends tomorrow night and just chat.
Tomorrow will be a fun day because C and I are trading in the car we have now for a brand spanking new one! I’m so excited. I haven’t really been a fan of the car we have now because I don’t like the hatch back look of it. Smoothest ride ever, but I just don’t really like the way it looks (sorry C!). BUT the car we’re getting… drool. It’s so nice, so shiny, so smooth and classy looking. We’re getting the 2012 Acura TL… see photo below J

Granted, it doesn’t have the roof mounted Gatling Gun as the picture shows, and as they use in the Avengers although how sweet would that be. It also doesn't have those rims, it has normal silver rims, less stealth. Isn’t it just a really nice sleek car? I’m so excited… Although the only downfall is I’m going to have to learn how to park the car all over again. We have a condom sized parking spot between a cement wall and a huge cement pillar so parking has never been an easy task. C is a very talented driver and can back in. Myself however, I need to do about an 8-point turn to get the car in straight. No big deal.
I hate to admit it, but this week has been a bust in terms of fitness and partly diet. The two weeks prior to this week I had a 13 day workout streak. Seriously, I participated in some sort of physical activity for at least 1-hour every day for 13 days in a row. It ended the day after Ellen’s wedding, but we don’t need a recap on that. This week though, I’ve taken two “rest days”. I hate rest days because I feel lazy, I feel like my hard work is going down and honestly, it makes me feel gross. My skin isn’t as soft, I don’t feel as refreshed, it just feels… bleh. On top of it, I haven’t been as strict with my paleo diet. One night I ate 12 ten cent candies and rice with dinner. Fail. Today in general I couldn’t stop eating. Granted I did eat all paleo goodness but I ate A LOT. I literally ate an entire quarter watermelon today. I’ve been peeing non-stop… at least I’m well hydrated.
Yesterday I was really tired from being out with Adam and Katie at the Argo’s game and Williams Landing after until 1am. I did muster up the energy to get on a stepper for 45 minutes which provided me with some extra energy, but I did decide to go to bed a bit earlier than normal last night. I slept through the entire night but for some reason woke up with a headache, groggy and felt more tired today than I did yesterday. I decided not to work out today for a couple of different reasons. I honestly did have a ton of work to do and Friday’s are absolutely dead in my office because most corporations don’t do much on Friday afternoons except golf and drink so I got A TON of work done!! I was so productive; I was on a roll and opted out of my workout to continue my productivity role. I also was only working with 1 other person in the office today so I didn’t want to leave her alone in case the phones did get quite busy (which is always a possibility).
I convinced myself that I would for sure run down to my condo gym when I got home from work, but alas I again opted to hang out in bed reading 50 Shades of Grey.  For anyone who has read the book, I know you understand. So I did not work out today. BUT I’m going to wake up before we need to go get the car and get in an intense workout. I promise. Anyone that reads this, please comment and HOLD ME TO THIS! If I know someone is watching and expecting me to do it, I will. I’m not one to let people down!
Speaking of goals and being held accountable – have you entered my giveaway yet?? For those who haven’t read my last two posts or ignored me… ENTER THIS AMAZING GIVEAWAY!! I swear, once you start food journaling, you will realize how much better you eat. Knowing that you have to write down what you’re eating makes you think twice about what you put into your mouth! Not only is it a great tool to help with weight loss or healthy living in general, but this giveaway is absolutely FREE!!!  This is what you have to do to enter…

Anyways, I’m going to go hang with C and watch some Kevin Hart on Netflix. Have you ever watched his stand-up comedy? It’s absolutely hilarious, and for the most part I’m not a huge fan of stand-up. Check this guy out……
Stay sweet.

That Patient/Doctor "Click"

Good Morning Beautiful,

I'm writing this on my BlackBerry as I wait in the stuffy waiting room of my Endocrinologists office. For those of you who don't know what an "endo" is, its a doctor that specializes in hormones, and more specifically for me, the hormone insulin.

I've had diabetes now for almost 16 years, and its been quite the journey through multiple doctors. I truly feel like if you AND your doctor don't "click" (almost like a connection with a personal trainer, or a sport coach) then there is no way to get the full potential out of what they're trying to provide. There is definitely more than one reason why a patient and a doctor wouldn't click.

For me, the first doctor I ever had, I had at age 8 when I was first diagnosed until about age 16. He was the sweetest, kindest man. He was the doctor I had when I went to diabetic camp as a child (yes, they have that.) and he helped me through some pretty traumatic seizures when I didn't have anyone else around in the middle of a forest trying to pretend like I was "one with nature". But I was so young, and unfortunately he was basically a veteran when it came to diabetes and he retired in his older age.

My second doctor was still at the children's hospital I attended but he was much, much younger and fresh out of med school. I wouldn't necessarily say I didn't like him, but at the time he didn't seem like a nice person. I remember him talking down to me, and he just wasn't connecting with me on my level... I had him until I turned 18 and I graduated to an adult hospital.

The very first doctor I had as an adult, well, I hated her. I literally don't have anything nice to say about her except that she had nice healthy hair and was probably smart since she was a doctor. She would yell at me for my sugars not being under perfect control. She was rude, condescending and looked like a rat. I dreaded going to see her. I would cancel my appointments, postpone appointments and I just wasn't motivated to try and impress her. I didn't document my blood sugars and didn't try hard at keeping my sugars under control because 1. I hated her and didn't want to give her the satisfaction of being the doctor that successfully helped me, and 2. In my own ignorance, I didn't exactly know what was happening in my body when my blood sugars ran high (now I do! And I have much better blood sugar control!).

I wanted out of that patient/doctor relationship more than anything. If she had been a boyfriend, I would have seen her, left and never called again. If she had been a trainer I would fire her as my trainer in an instant, but guess what? You can't fire your doctor without being labeled a "problem" patient. So it wasn't until I moved to Toronto that I got the chance to say my goodbyes to the one Doctor I've hated most in my life.

She had to refer me to a doctor in Toronto, and she did the one GOOD thing she had ever done in our relationship, she referred me to my favourite doctor of all time, Dr. Bruce Perkins. When I first met him, I was instantly in love with him (as my doctor). Not only is he the first doctor that connected with me on a personal level (he's really into fitness and health like me!) but he's the first doctor I've ever had that actually HAS diabetes too and also wears an insulin pump like myself. He's sooo well dressed (very fashion forward!), he's like 6'5, if I were a 35-40 year old women, I'd drool through my entire appointment.

This is what a website has written about him (what he does/has done):
Bruce Perkins, MD, MPH
Dr. Bruce Perkins is Assistant Professor and Endocrinologist at the University of Toronto’s University Health Network practicing general endocrinology, and a Diabetes Complications Clinician-Investigator.
Dr. Perkins is a Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) Scholar and receives JDRF, Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and Banting and Best Diabetes Center funding. His research methods focus on cohort studies and clinical trials in diabetic nephropathy and neuropathy.
Dr. Perkins’ particular interests are in the identification of valid early phenotypes of these complications, and the natural history and determinants of the early phenotypes. He has also described novel phenotypes for early nephropathy and he has introduced “Early GFR Loss” as the alternative to microalbuminuria as a predictive marker, using the serial analysis of serum cystatin C. For early neuropathy, he has developed the operating characteristics of Corneal Confocal Microscopy as a method to analyze early small fiber morphological abnormalities as an alternative to intra-epidermal nerve fiber analysis by skin biopsy.
Dr. Perkins also has a major focus on technologies in diabetes care including the use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring in clinical trials and clinical practice. He chaired the Ministry of Health’s expert panel for Insulin Pump Coverage for adults in Ontario.
He obtained his MD and Internal Medicine Residency training at the University of Toronto, endocrinology subspecialty training at Harvard University and the Joslin Diabetes Center, and his Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health
I love him so much because, well, obviously from the text above he's a fairly smart cookie, but he likes to help my by making changes in small steps. I see him every 5 months and every 5 months we focus on 1 new thing. These past 5 months have been focusing on documenting blood sugars and making sure I test my blood before I go to bed. Easy enough right? This allows him to slowly see patterns in my blood sugars and adjust my insulin levels accordingly without making any drastic changes and potentially screwing up everything. I'm actually happy to see him today, I haven't seen him since I ran my half-marathon, I hope he asks me about it :). Oh my goodness, do you think he'd let me take a picture with him today for my blog? I'm so asking.

HE LET ME!

Me and my wonderful Doc! He helps me stay healthy!
Today is going to be a very busy day, hence why I'm writing this on my BB in the waiting room. I have this appointment, I have a couple conference calls crammed into my half day (thank god I opted to work late last night and do some work when I actually got home), then I have to go home really quick andhave a shower and meet up with another couple that C and I know to go watch the Toronto Argos game! Do you think I'd be able to bring chicken and raw veggies to munch on? They usually check purses. Maybe I'll pull the whole "I have allergies..." Stint. If I have no food to munch I'll for sure cave and get popcorn (aka artery hardener). I might also have one beer, I'm admitting it now. Its going to be hot out!! Bud Light Lime is always refreshing. :)

Hello Tosca :)
Also, I'm fairly certain I can already feel the benefits of the MicroGreens I've been having every morning. I notice that I'm not super fatigued going home (it wasn't abnormal to go home, nap for an hour and get up to cook dinner.. I haven't all week!) And I'm more alert during the day. I can't wait to see how I'm going to feel after 2 whole weeks!

Guess what guys? You know Tosca Reno, the Eat Clean Queen? She tweeted to me today and let me know she's checking out my food journal giveaway!! If she's checking it out, YOU SHOULD TOO!! :). I soooo cannot wait to meet her in August!

Here's how to enter my giveaway!

Ellen's Wedding, My 1st Ever Big Mac, AND A GIVEAWAY!

Good afternoon Beautiful,
Wheeew! I haven’t blogged in a while! I mean, I had my wonderful guest blogger, but I haven’t actually talked to you guys in SO LONG. How have you been? I’ve missed you.
I’m not sure if I had told you much about it before hand, but this past weekend was one of my oldest friend’s wedding, Ellen. It was back home so C and I spent the weekend in Wingham. It was actually Alyssa and Trevor’s Buck and Doe on Friday night, and Ellen’s wedding on Saturday so we killed two birds with one stone this weekend! The Buck and Doe was really great, I got to see some people from highschool, Alyssa’s family and some friends of mine from Toronto that went to the Buck and Doe. I’m so happy for Alyssa and Trevor… their wedding is going to be amazing! I hate to admit this, but after the Buck and Doe, I, C, and my parents decided going to McDonald’s was a good idea. I had been drinking, and made the worst decision of the weekend. I, Sarah Ohm, ate a Big Mac with fries for the very first time in my whole life.  It was really good, but I felt so bad after and all day Saturday that I don’t think I’d eat another one…
Ellen’s wedding was so beautiful as well. They had it on Ellen’s now husband Tim’s parent’s farm. The ceremony was very small, maybe 50 people. It was actually really quick. When she stepped onto the aisle, her little girl Halle yelled “MOOOOOM!” and everyone laughed. Of course Ellen was teary the whole time and the good man that Tim is, had a Kleenex ready to give to her. As soon as I saw her, I cried. Thank goodness for sunglasses. She made such a gorgeous bride, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful bride.
The reception and dinner was VERY fun and delicious. I stuck to my paleo diet during dinner, and as soon as dessert came out I fell so weak and ate a slice of chocolate pie. I know right, probably the worst possible decision, but oh was it SO GOOD.  But again, I felt bad for eating it and boy did I pay for it. More about this later! Here are some photos from the wedding!

Ellen throwing her bouquet!
I have mentioned this before, but BioCore Foods has sent me a jar of their product MicroGREENS. I received it in the mail on Friday and started it first thing Saturday morning. I am to have 1 scoop of it every morning, first thing. The man I’m working with said to do it for at least 2 weeks, and that I should mix it with almond milk. Well, I had my first serving in Wingham and my family didn’t have any almond milk, so I used water instead, and it wasn’t too bad! I mean, it looks pretty strange, but it smells fruity and tastes pretty fruity too! Not bad! I’ve noticed that I’m more awake through the day (except for yesterday and today because of some self-induced flu). I said I wouldn’t write a real review until the two weeks (at least) is up, so I just wanted to let you know that I did start it…. And so far it’s good J.
So needless to say, at Ellen’s wedding I may have overindulged in my drink of choice, vodka water. So yesterday was basically a right off. It was the end of my 13-day workout streak, my diet when to crap and I was basically confined to my bed once we got back to Toronto. Today was still a big foggy, which means my workout totally suffered today. In my head I had planned on doing some serious upper body work, and then finishing it off with some kick-ass Tabata sprints on the treadmill. I ended up doing this:
Pec Dec Machine, 60/55lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Reverse Pec Dec, 40lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Chest Press Machine, 70/65/55lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Assisted Pull-ups, 70lbs of help, 3 sets, 10/9/7reps
Then I opted for 30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical because I was so fatigued. It’s unbelievable how much the body changes after a couple cheats. Like really! I was thinking about it all day, and well, the body is an amazing thing. Talk about motivation to NOT cheat on my diet or drink a ton… I enjoy m y workouts, and it’s really frustrating when they don’t go as well as I planned.
The good news is that the morning after my Big Mac incident, my sister Brooke and I went to the gym in Wingham and killed it!
50 squats (5 sets of 10) holding 2x10lbs dumbbells
50 lunges (5 sets of 10) holding 2x10lbs dumbbells
Glute Raise/Hamstring Curl on stability ball, 3 sets of 10 reps
Walking lunges, just bodyweight, 50 reps
Plank, 15 seconds on, 15 seconds rest for 5 minutes
10 minutes of cardio at level 10 (really hard)
Anyways – enough of this crazy workout stuff! I have some really fun and exciting news! This is my very first giveaway on my blog! As you all know, one of my loves is food journaling. I really do think it helps keep you on track, it helps you find patterns in your eating habits and we all know you’re less likely to cheat if you know you have to write it down! So what better giveaway to host but your own food journal! It’s the same food journal I use, from Claudine Gandolfi (who so very generously agreed to donate one of her food journals for this giveaway!) titled Diet and Fitness Journal: Your Personal Guide to Optimal Health. Check out the inside…
So! What do you need to do to enter this amazing giveaway?
