Black Coffee Is Awful, Sweat, Lettuce Wraps!

Good evening Beautiful,
It’s the weekend!! Finally, what a whirlwind of a week. It was a short week, and it definitely flew by… but I feel I could have used the extra day to do work. I guess I can use part of tomorrow to try and catch up on some work that I need to do.
I’m hoping that this weekend is multiple things. Productive, healthy, clear and fun. C and I are going to go out for a drink or two at our favourite bar/restaurant tonight, Williams Landing. It’s in Liberty Village here in Toronto and it’s a really big place with a really big patio. I’m not going to drink to go out like we usually do because I honestly don’t plan on being out late. I know right? This is not like me at all. I think I’m just sick of always having my weekends go by so quickly, having not accomplished anything.
Every day at work at 11am I have a cup of coffee. Just one, after I rush to get my membership requests to our home office (submitted by 11am) I go up and grab a cup to wake me up for the rest of the day. I usually put cream in my coffee, and I used to use sweetener. Well, I’ve stopped using sweetener now for a while, but I kept the cream even though I don’t eat dairy at any other time. The reason I use cream in my coffee is because I’ve learned from some personal trainers that I used to work with that coffee increases the hormone cortisol in the body, and cortisol increases belly fat, but if you use cream it creates a lining in the stomach so that the cortisol is released slowly and doesn’t affect the body as much.
Anyways, since I’ve stopped consuming dairy products, I’ve noticed that when I do use cream in my coffee it causes me to burp. A lot. So today I decided to have my coffee black. A girl I know started drinking her coffee black and she realized that she actually enjoyed the taste of coffee. So today I tried it, completely black. It wasn’t good. Not even a little bit good… I found myself drinking water after every drink of coffee. I also found myself cringing whenever the coffee was in my mouth. I’m just glad that I have my own little cubicle because it would have been really funny to watch me for anyone besides myself.
Well I was talking to the girl who started drinking her coffee black, and she told me about almond milk. OH MY GOD… why did I not think of this!?!?! Almond milk is dairy free, and I EVEN OWN SOME CURRENTLY. She suggested either vanilla or chocolate, but I’ll probably use the plain unsweetened kind… I’m hoping it helps at least a little bit! If the plain kind doesn’t work, I’ll up it to the vanilla or chocolate. What an amazing idea – she got the crown for my hero of the day for sure.
Usually on Fridays I get lazy and skip the gym. Not today my friends!! I wanted to kill it in the gym today and burn some serious calories. I decided to focus on my chest, shoulders and cardio today and then focus on back, arms and legs tomorrow. So todays workout was this…
Pec Dec Machine - first 2 sets at 60lbs and 10 reps, third set at 55lbs and 8 reps
Shoulder Press – started with 10 reps using the 40lbs bar, but went down to 17.5lbs dumbbells 8 reps for 2 sets
Cable cross-over, 7.5lbs on each side, 3 sets, 10 reps except the last set, I did 9
Lateral Raise Machine – 50lbs, 3 sets, 10 reps
Push-Ups From Knees – 3 sets, first two sets were of 10, the last one I did till failure, 13 reps.
Dumbbell lateral/frontal raise – 5lbs dumbbells, 3 sets of 9 reps (1 rep was lifting the dumbbells lateral, bring them to the front, lower, bring back up in front, bring to the sides and lower)
Then I did 30 minutes on the StairMaster, started at level 11 for 10 minutes, then level 12 for 10 minutes, then level 13 for 10 minutes.
I was super sweaty when I was done this workout mostly because of the StairMaster. I never use this machine as I associate it with the devil, but I really wanted to kill it today so I committed to it. I didn’t have my iPod with me unfortunately, so it was a boooring 30 minutes. I relied on people texting and bbming me through the whole thing. It was a bit of a safety concern trying to text, and climb stairs at the same time, but everything was fine. Fewf.
I plan on trying to drag C to go to the gym with me tomorrow. I love when he works out with me because he can lift so heavy, he makes me lift a lot more than I would alone. Kind of like a trainer, except not but it's good to have him there!
Tonight I decided to make Turkey Lettuce Wraps for dinner. Usually on Fridays we order out (C ordered Indian food tonight and I admit, I ordered a small Mulligatawny Soup… but I did make my own actual dinner) so I thought about what I was going to have and decided on lettuce wraps because I had seen a lot of people making them on Twitter lately. We stopped at the grocery store on the way home and I grabbed a pound of extra lean ground turkey, some fresh herbs and some organic medium salsa. I  hadn’t made these before so I just kind of winged it. I figured it would almost be like a taco without the cheese and shell.

I started by cooking the turkey in a pan with some EVOO (Debora MacNeil, this is Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I cut the end off of my head of iceberg lettuce and pulled off 3 big leaves to use as the wrap. I had some cherry tomatoes in the fridge that needed to be used so I diced them up as well. Basically then I just guessed at how much I was going to eat in total with three wraps and weighed/measured everything on my scale so I was committed to eating the amount I measured because I calculated my dose of insulin based on this! This is how much I ate of everything:
Iceberg Lettuce, 203g, 20 cals, 2.2 carbs
Tomato, 42g, 8 cals, 1.1 carbs
Ground Turkey, 192g, 288 cals, 0 carbs
Organic Salsa, 103mL, 43 cals, 8.5 carbs

So ALL of this food was only 359 calories… isn’t that awesome! I love finding healthy meals. Even C agreed that it was crazy that all of the food I ate was under 400 calories. They turned out well, but I think they were missing something. It didn’t taste like a taco, the crunchy, salty shell was missing, the creamy cheese was missing. Maybe next time I need to use avocado? I’m not sure. Maybe some sea salt… next time I do this I’ll modify slightly and let you know how it turns out.
I have a random confession. I just downloaded the “What Makes You Beautiful” song by One Direction. I like this song, and I don’t care what you say. J….. you don’t know you’re beautiful!
Time to shower. Have a great night everyone!

Stay sweet.
J) and some garlic. Once the turkey was almost cooked I added in some fresh chives.
