I'm Going To Start Running Again! Also - I'm NOT A Chef

Good evening Beautiful,

Last night I was watching the recap of the women’s marathon in the Olympics. If you’re new to this blog you might not know that I ran a half-marathon in May, it was my first one. I trained for 16 weeks, ate a strict paleo diet, and reeeeeeally cut back on my drinking/partying during my training. I was actually training during a good time because (as bad as this sounds) C was injured while playing basketball, and had to have knee surgery. So while he was recovering, and basically unable to go anywhere or do anything, I would be running, or making delicious meals, and not going to bars, and eating out at restaurants. See – I even finished!

My final time was 2:23:57. I know I shouldn’t have had a goal for time for my first half ever, but I did want to do it in less than 2:30:00 so I did! During my training, I had knee problems, then I had ankle problems, then after my race (or because of my race) I had shin splints, and couldn’t walk properly for about 3 days, but I was so pumped up to run more races! I had definitely acquired the “running bug”.

Needless to say, I haven’t ran outside since my half-marathon. I took a rest week after my race, and got to thinking about how painful it was for me to train for this race, and I just became totally unmotivated to do any more races. So anyways, while I was watching the Olympic Marathon, I decided that I wanted to start running again. I’m unsure if I want to do another half-marathon because it’s such a commitment, but I have committed to doing the Toronto Yonge St. 10km Race again in the spring. I did it last year as part of my half-marathon training and finished the 10km in 0:55:27, I was super happy with this time, I thought I had taken a lot longer.

So today I went for a 5km run on the treadmill. I’m still able to do a 5km run without stopping, but it was definitely a lot harder than it used to be, but that’s to be expected. This week I want to do five 5kms either outside or on the treadmill. Wish me luck!

Random side note - If I'm going to start running again, that means new shoes. 1. I need to find shoes that will match my wicked pink shoeslaces (#sweatpink!) and 2. YEEEAH shopping!!!
I also decided that today I wanted to attempt to make zucchini chips. I’ve been seeing a ton of my fellow Sweat Pink Ambassadors making different types of vegetable chips, so I decided to give it a shot. Basically, it was an EPIC fail. Of course, going into it I thought I just needed to cut up the zucchini:

And sprinkle some sea salt on them, and bake them. Well, they turned out being a sloppy mess. I have no idea what I did wrong, but luckily I bought two zucchini’s so I can actually Google a recipe tomorrow and make them successfully. I’m not sure when I decided I was a super chef and just had the knowledge of how to make everything… turns out I’m not that, not at all. Once I have mastered the zucchini chip, you guys will be the first to know. Also, for whatever reason I have the worst luck when it comes to cooking. Seriously - once I burnt a pot with milk in it, before the milk was even boiling. How does that happen!? So today was no different, this is what the oven was doing and I have no idea why:
