There's A Lot Happening In This Post.. Workout, Food & A Giveaway!

Good afternoon Beautiful,

It’s been 3 days since my last blog post, I feel like I have a ton to write about!
First thing first – today’s workout… was MUCH needed!! I hadn’t worked out in two days, and I was beginning to feel pretty gross. C came to the gym with me, it was awesome! The first thing we did was #plankaday because I’ve been slacking on that too (I had a friendly reminder today from @plankpolice on Twitter, I believe it was “Hard core, or hard SNORE??”). So we did our plank first thing so we could maximize our core and not have our arms give our first because their fatigued. C kicked my butt and he held his plank for 2:31, and I held mine for 2:11.
The club that we went to is in Liberty Village, and usually the only workout I can get in is the random machines that aren’t being used when I need something to do. So unfortunately that always makes for a very random workout. Luckily today it wasn’t as busy as usual so I got in a fairly good (but somewhat boring) upper body workout. It looked like this:
10 minute warm up on the elliptical
Tabata style push-ups (more on this in a minute!)
Seated Row, 40lbs, 10 reps, 3 sets
Dumbbell Bicep Curls, 15lbs dumbbells, 10 reps, 3 sets
Tricep Pressdowns, 20lbs (I can usually do 50lbs, so I’m not sure what was going on?), 10 reps, 3 sets
Lateral Raises, 5lbs dumbbells, 20/15/10 reps, 3 sets
Leg Raises, bodyweight, 10 reps, 3 sets
Wheeeeew! My arms are still slightly shaky.
Ok – so you noticed my little note beside “Tabata Style Push-Ups”, well… this is what it is! Tabata is a type of interval exercise, where you work for 20 seconds, and rest for 10 for a total of 8 rounds, which means the whole thing takes 4 minutes – easy peasey right!?
Well, I was given a Gymboss interval timer by Gymboss to review, and I think they’re amazing! I don’t usually use things like a timer when I’m working out, but it helps so much when doing tabata, and I love tabata! The Gymboss timer allows you to set up exactly how you’d like your intervals to go, so it doesn’t have to be just a 20:10 interval, it can be whatever you want! When the end of the work period is over, it beeps twice letting you know you can rest, and then beeps twice again to tell you to get your ass in gear! J One of the best things is how small it is… check it out!
See how tiny it is! Also rocking my Sweat Pink tank!

By the end of the 4 minutes I was dying!
Now for the fun part – Gymboss has been very generous and has agreed to give away one Gymboss timer to one lucky winner!  YAYE giveaway!!! I’m going to post how you can enter the giveaway at the very end of this post, so stay tuned!!
C and I had gone to London on Friday night to see some old friends and so I did not manage to get a workout in AND I ate like crap. So on Saturday morning I went down to my old gym to grab a salad (they make an amazing Greek salad, I used to get one every day for lunch – so I couldn’t leave London without grabbing one while I was there!) and luckily my favourite person ever was working, so I got to eat lunch with her. It was so nice catching up, even though I know I’m going to see her in 2 weeks! The salad felt so good after a nice out, and then on the drive home I felt motivated to make a delicious paleo dinner. C wanted to BBQ some steaks, and I was going to grill some chicken skewers  and I decided to tackle my first ever frittata!
A frittata is basically an egg dish with veggies in it, almost like a huge omelette/casserole. I used red onion, broccoli and mushrooms in mine, and this is how it turned out:

It was a perfect addition to C’s AMAZING steaks and the chicken skewers… see?

As soon as I tasted the frittata I knew it was going to be a staple and I instantly started thinking of fun new things I could use in the frittata. My first idea was to use chicken, very finely chopped. Then I had the best idea, a breakfast frittata!! I could use grated potato and finely chopped bacon… wouldn’t that be amazing??? C already said we need to try it, so maybe that will be my next venture in the frittata world.
I was feeling foodie-inspired this weekend so this afternoon after my workout I decided to tackle home made Lara Bars. I’ve had the recipe saved on my computer for months but I just haven’t gotten around to trying it, until now! I had picked up the ingredients at the bulk barn earlier this week, so I didn’t need to go pick anything up which is always fantastic.
I started by putting about ½ cup of dates in my Magic Bullet and blended it until it became a paste. Set it aside in a bowl (a medium sized bowl, no need to do extra dishes!).
Then I put 1/3 cup of almonds and 1/3 cup of cashews in the Magic Bullet and blended it until they were very finely chopped, almost powder. I added the nuts to the dates in the medium sized bowl.
Then I added ½ cup of organic shredded coconut and ½ tsp of pure organic vanilla extract.
Mix it up with your hands!
This was the mixture before
I put it into bars!
I noticed that it was exactly the consistency that I wanted, so I blended up some more dates and mixed them into the bowl until the mixture was as thick as I’d like it to be.
I then used a quarter of the mixture and put it into a plastic baggie, shoved the mixture into the corner of the bag and molded it into a bar shape. After all 4 bars had been made, I put them in the fridge for about an hour (the recipe said 20 minutes, but they’ve been in there longer at this point, I’m not worried, and I think they’re supposed to remain refrigerated anyways). This is how they looked after all that jazz!! I also haven’t tasted them yet, I’m going to try RIGHT NOW!
After I molded them in a baggie!
After being the fridge, they do
get a lot more firm, and YUMMY!
THEY’RE SO GOOD!! Mmmm…. I didn’t know if these were going to be good, BUT THEY ROCK! You need to try and make these right now! This is the website I got the recipe from!
