2 Weeks Till My Birthday - Workout, Eating Clean, Dress Shopping!

Good evening Beautiful,

So it’s officially two weeks until my birthday. Correct, I’m a Halloween baby. However, this year I’ve decided to celebrate my birthday on November 10th, which is a mere 24 days away. What does that mean? Well a few things. In two weeks I’ll be a whopping 24 years old. AHH... I’m almost a quarter of a century old! That’s a big deal…. And the birthday party, well, I want to look darn good for my birthday party!
This is the first time in as long as I can remember that my birthday party is going to be fun BECAUSE it’s my birthday, not because it’s Halloween. Usually I end up dressing up in costume, going to an overcrowded bar, get frustrated with being shoved and stepped on and just not have a good time, pay an insane amount of money to get into the bar, drink prices go up, and at the end of the night? Hopefully you’re close to home because there is NO WAY you’re getting a cab (not to mention it’s usually freezing, if not snowing, so hopefully your costume is 1. Cool enough to wear in a hot overcrowded bar and 2. Warm enough to keep you warm when walking through the snow/slush. Sounds realistic and REALLY FUN right? Not exactly, it usually puts me in a very sour mood.
SO I think I’ve solved the problem – I’m going to wait 10 whole days to celebrate. November 10. It’s a safe day, nothing too crazy happens on November 10th…. I think it will be successful. My first concern however, is that I won’t be wearing a costume this year, so what the heck am I going to wear? I guess I should probably go shopping then, huh? J I’ve done some online window shopping and I’ve found the following dresses quite interesting.



Le Chateau is usually my go-to store for dresses, so it will be the first place I take a peak and see what I find. Obviously I’m pretty into the LBD… you can never go wrong and there are a ton of different options now with strapless, one-strap, halter, peplums, sequins, ruffles, you name it you can find an LBD with it! Which dress do you like the best?
Another major component is making sure that my fitness is in its peak when the 10th rolls around! Obviously I want to look as great as possible and I have 24 days to try and get there!  So I started this week, and so far it’s been going well. I’m trying my best to put all of my crazy PMS cravings aside (or cave only eating clean treats). Since I had such a crappy workout yesterday, I wanted to make up for it today in the weight room, and I did! I worked out after work today instead of on my lunch because I was busy on my lunch, but in about 45 minutes I managed to get in a full body resistance training workout, work up some sweat and then stretch a bit at the end. It was a really quick workout, so I’m sorry if I missed something here (not that you would know anyways…):
-          Pec Dec Machine, 55lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps (my chest was still sore from Monday’s workout!)
-          The opposite of a pec dec, I can’t remember what it’s called but it works your back, 30lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps in the first set, 8 in the last.
-          Assisted Pull-Ups, 70lbs of help during the first set, 80lbs of help during the second set and did 10 reps each time.
-          Leg Curl, 100lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps
-          Leg Extension, 85lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps
-          One arm dumbbell row, 20lbs, 2 sets, 15 reps (on both arms)
-          Static Lunges, 15 on each leg
-          Lateral Raise Machine, 50lbs, 2 sets, 10 reps
-          Tricep Dips, 55lbs of help, 2 sets, 10 reps
-          Push-ups, 2 sets, 10 reps
-          Tricep Dips on a bench, 2 sets, 15 reps
-          Stretching
Whew, I think that’s it. Not bad, huh? I’ve heard that lunges really help running, so I’ve been making a point of doing a lot of lunges during each weight training workout… I hope it helps.
Today for work I went and attended part of a woman’s networking event for work to help promote the corporate partnership that we have with this company. The thought of a women’s networking day was kind of interesting to me. I’ve always been a “girly girl”, but in all honesty, I’ve always had a very mixed group of friends, a few gals, a few guys. I’ve always been fairly comfortable around guys, some of my closest friends now are guys… But this event got me thinking… I think it’s really cool that these professional women are coming together to just get to know each other, and connect, and make friendships! I think more people should reach out and connect with someone new, or someone you haven’t connected with in a long time… It might make you feel good!
Tonight for dinner, we’re making beer can chicken and I’m going to attempt to make a recipe I found on Michelle’s blog (www.pushpumpprogress.com) called Mediterranean Spaghetti Squash. Let me go cook it, and I will share the recipe with you (I might tweek it just oh so slightly!)…….
Mediterranean Spaghetti Squash
Ingredients
½ a red onion, diced
2 tbsp minced garlic
½ cup frozen Cookin’ Greens kale
1 cup of cherry tomatoes cut in half
1 spaghetti squash
2 tbsp of fresh basil chopped
½ tsp of chilli pepper flakes
feta cheese (optional for those who are paleo vs not paleo… I didn’t put any in mine, but C put some in his)
salt and pepper to taste.
Directions
1. Cook the squash by cutting it in half, scooping out the guts, placing it face down on a lightly greased cooking sheet and bake in the oven for about 30-35 minutes at 350F, or until the squash is soft and ready to eat.
2. Sauté the onions and garlic until the onions are transparent.
3. Add in the frozen kale, cook for 1 minute.
4. Add in the tomatoes and basil, cook until tomatoes are soft.
5. Add chilli pepper flakes and salt and pepper to taste.
6. Put the contents of the squash in a bowl.
7. Add the veggies, and top with feta cheese if you desire!
 
Finished product with the feta!
Michelle’s original recipe didn’t call for kale or chilli flakes, but did call for olives. I very much dislike black olives so I didn’t include them in my recipe, obviously. Recipes like this are a ton of fun because you can basically add anything that’s bright and tastes good, and it’s a super clean addition to the chicken tonight, making the whole meal completely paleo! Yay! That birthday dress sure is calling my name!

  6. I love buying fun party dresses! There is a really cute store on Queen West, just East of Spadina and right next to Aritiza called Lemor - very cute stuff!
