A Long Weekend = A Long Blog Post!

Hey Loveys,

Hoppy Easter Sunday! Some bunny loves you!!

I hope you're having a great weekend, or had a great weekend rather. I've been so MIA from my blog all week, so sorry!! It's been insane, going to and from my home town for easter and spending 2 days in training this week.... needless to say unfortunately my blog got pushed to the back burner temporarily, but I'm back and I think this might be a long post my friends!

Friday was a holiday off of work because it was Good Friday, so we got invited out on Thursday night after work to our friend Gillian's birthday party. We got there SO early because we knew the club, Bloke & 4th, was hosting a party for Dom Perignon and the place was going to be insane. We got to the club at 10 and there was already a mini line up. A few people in front of us decided to bounce out, and we made it up to the front of the line with two girls in front of us who were so nice and so funny! If you're a big fan of The Bachelor, or follow the Bachelor Canada or anything, you'd know that the woman who won Brad's heart in the first season of The Bachelor Canada, Bianca, works as a bartender at Bloke & 4th on weekends. I knew that she worked there, but didn't really think much of it besides that.

We were getting super impatient waiting in the line because honestly, the staff at Bloke & 4th are assholes. Actually legit assholes. I'm not sure why they have this sort of "I'm better than you" type aura about them, but like I care THAT MUCH that I'm going to wait in your line while you treat us like shit. They kept not letting anyone in, but letting random people in off the street, and eventually it got to the point that the major asshole guy turned off the heater that we were all gathered under. Before we took off though, two guys left the bar, and I knew the one as soon as I saw him. Brad Smith, the first ever Bachelor on The Bachelor Canada! Haha! It was so awesome. One of the girls in front of us called him over and he came and took a picture with us.

The picture cut off the other girl that we were taking the picture with... BUT it was still so cool!! Thank god we actually waited in line that long so I could meet him :). Anyways, if you work at Bloke & 4th or are associated with that place in any way.... it sucks. I refuse to ever go back there! What makes them think they could make people waiting in line in cold for over an hour, turn off the heater and then expect us to WANT to go there? No thanks, I'll take all the money I'm willing to spend to ANOTHER bar, where they are nice and not assholes. :). That is all about that! We ended up walking down the street to Brassaii, where the staff love us and let us in! Our friends who were already in Bloke & 4th left because the bar was dead (shocking, everyone was outside and no one was spending money or drinking inside) and came to party with us! It ended up being a really fun night!

When Friday rolled around, we left Toronto in the morning to go back to my home town, Wingham. We had our big family Easter dinner on Friday afternoon. It was so good! My Aunt Janis cooked and we had turkey and vegetables and home made gravy and oh my god it was so good. We also have a lot of birthday's this time of year in our family, so we had birthday cake... HOWEVER I didn't eat a single piece :). Yay me!

We were all so tired after the day and the night before that we all ended up crashing around 10 on Friday night and slept all night. However, when Saturday came around I was ready to actually be productive. So I got up around 8 and busted out a 7km run and was back home by 9:30am! Check this out...

It was a slow run, but whenever I run in Wingham I always forget how hilly that damn town is. Seriously. I think our house is located in the more elevated areas of town. The beginning of the run was great, and I realize now it was because I was running downhill the whole time. I snapped a few photos from around town when I was running! Wingham is so small I literally ran to each end of the town. Check out the map for proof!

Anyways, here are some pictures from my run!

The slowest speed limit I've ever seen
The one end of the town that I got to. Hello country.
This is from the top of one of the damn hills that I ran up. My legs were destroyed after this one
My shadow :). Peace.
The river I was running along!
Taa daaaaa, now you have seen a little bit of Wingham, and where I came from! :).

That day C, my sister, my mom and I went to the new tea store in Wingham! I was excited to see that Wingham got a fancy tea place because I'm a huge tea freak. They had like 130 different kinds of tea and samples that you could buy for $1.95! So these are the teas that I picked up while I was there!

I got a sample of Stress Blocker, Mexican Winter Rooibos and some Green Matcha powder. I picked up a package of Pear Apricot Green Tea and a tea ball which I was supposed to leave at my parents house but brought back to Toronto with me by mistake. Whoops. I'll bring it back home next time. I'm really excited to try the Mexican Winter tea, it's got chilli flakes in it!

For dinner last night my dad BBQd us steaks and my Grandma came over for dinner. She's so cute, and our family dog LOVES her!

Isn't that so cute? Haha, I can't get over it. She's the most adorable Grandma ever and Jake just loooves her. She always brings him a cookie (dog treat) though, so maybe that's why. We got back to Toronto last night around 9pm and stayed in, after debating whether to go out. I can't go out twice in a weekend anymore. I may be 24 but I'm an OLD 24 year old! I'm glad we stayed in though. I slept for like 11 hours and got up and went for the 4th run of the week this morning! And just for good measure, here is a picture of my kitty Louie :).

My legs were already tender from my hilly run yesterday (mostly my calves, always my weak spot) and so I decided to only go for an easy 4km run today. Well... I think easy may be the wrong describing word. It was hard. My legs were SO HEAVY. The wind was in my eyes and making me look like I was balling while out for a run. Needless to say I got 4km out in about 25 minutes. I was so sweaty after. I came in and stretched out my whole body. I even went into the stairwell in my building to use the stairs to stretch my calves and that just did not help. I can't walk right now so much as shuffle. Le sigh lol...

During my run I convinced myself that I wanted to make a green smoothie. If you follow this blog you'll know I've tried this on multiple different occasions and they usually turn out brown. So anyways, I got showered and went to the grocery store and realized that the grocery store down the street from my building is closed because it's Easter Sunday. Splendid. So I went on a little walk downtown to a little grocery store called Fresh & Wild. Thank GOD it was open. I picked up a few things that I knew I could carry home :). Look how pretty it all is!

Some of this stuff was to prepare a roast in the slow cooker today - but I will post a recipe about that later this week. Tonight I'm going to share my green smoothie recipe!

Sarah's Green Smoothie
1 white nectarine
1 large banana cut into chunks
8 regular sized strawberries
1 small handful of blueberries
1 scoop of Vanilla Sun Warrior Protein
1 tbsp of flax seeds
1 tsp of Green Matcha Powder
1 cup of ice
2 massive handfulls of baby spinach
1 personal sized container of Vita-Coco coconut water

Put all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

YAYE!! IT'S GREEN!! Haha I was so proud. It made waaaay too much for me to drink today so I have to figure out how to store the rest for breakfast tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Ok I'm going to bounce out. This blog post is humongous..

What did you get up to this weekend? If you want - share with me your green smoothie recipe! I'd love to hear what you use!

Oh - and stay tuned, I have a fun giveaway coming up this week. Oh - and if Carly is reading this (winner of my last giveaway), I still haven't mailed out your prize. I'M SORRY!!! I will be doing it tomorrow!!

So I'm Getting Back Into Running... Now What?

Hey Loveys,

So as you can see from my title, I've been running. I ran on Sunday which is the last time I posted as well, and then I ran again tonight. Let me tell you about tonight's run.

I spent the day in training so I was dying to get some exercise in by the time I got home. As soon as I got home I changed, charged my GPS watch, re-downloaded the software for it and it updated the GPS in the watch. If you've been following me for a while you know that I've had some not-so-lucky experiences with my GPS watch, so I was nervous to take it out.. but worst case scenario was that I just time myself and calculate the distance when I got home. Well.... it totally worked!! I'm SO excited to FINALLY have my GPS back so I can see how far I run outside!!! You have no idea.. I'M SO HAPPY!!!

So I decided to run along the water instead of through the city since my GPS was working (running through the city is easier to calculate when you don't have a GPS because you can remember what streets you run on, as opposed to just running along the trail which isn't as easy to calculate as they have more twists and turns than the actual street it's beside). It was beautiful out. Blue sky, sun was shining but it was a bit chilly because of the wind so I had brought my Under Armour running gloves. So there I am, running, running, running... tired. I look down and it's like 6 minutes in. Haha.. wonderful. So clearly all my stamina and endurance has left. I figured that was going to be the case, but during my last run, after my first walk break I was golden for the rest of the run. Maybe it was because I didn't have any stoplights on the trail that it seemed harder. I don't know. There was a ton of people out running and biking which was AWESOME, but I felt like everyone was passing me.

I ended up walking about every 9 minutes for 1 minute, with a few additional walk breaks... I couldn't help it. I'm clearly not conditioned for running anymore so I have to get back into it. I think the run back after the half-way mark was better than running the first half. I ended up pumping out a 6km run in 38:26. Not my best work, but as one of my followers on Instagram mentioned, I kicked ass compared to everyone sitting on the couch not doing anything tonight. SO THERE! :). Lol. And I can't be hard on myself at all, 6km is pretty damn good for a second run after a winter of hibernation.

I was so sweaty when I got home, I had to walk around the condo. Then because I was so tired I decided to lay in bed with my feet up on the wall lol. I felt great though, it was amazing to get back out there and hit the pavement. After I plugged my GPS into the computer, this is what popped up - so you can all see my run and my time and my pace and my calories.

You're welcome. I know you needed some sort of #proof. As you can also see, I haven't registered a run since the end of October. Epic fail. Oh well. What matters is I'm back and it feels great! So you may or may not be wondering.... now what? I'm back into running, feeling great.

You know what? I have no idea.

I thought about maybe training for a half-marathon in the fall... but I don't know. I think for now I just want to comfortably get back into running a solid 10km and see where that takes me. The Toronto Yonge St. 10km is in like 3ish weeks so that's my main goal now. I've never ran through the summer before and obviously I don't want to be tied down to the through of a training schedule during the summer, so we'll see. I will be keeping at it for sure... but who knows. Maybe a 15km race in August? I'll keep you posted. :) My current goal is running outside 4x/week for the next 4 weeks. I've clocked 2 runs this week already!

So today I attended my first of two days of training that a lot of people at GoodLife have taken and I've heard nothing but amazing things about. The training is called Crucial Confrontations and I've learned SO MUCH already! It's meant to help you deal with conversations or situations with people that you don't want to deal with but want to push off and hopefully ignore forever. I'm totally like this, I hate confrontation on all levels... however, today already has given me so many tools to help me STOP ignoring confrontations and to help build relationships on both professional and personal levels.

Those are my books/CDs so I can forever know how to handle a tough situation! Haha. Awesome... Most people I work with have taken the course (including C) so I can't pull my magic on them. Darn it.

Anyways I'm off to cook up some sweet Plantains for dinner. I hope you're all having a great week!

Have you ever taken any self-development courses? What were your favourites?

A Weekend FULL Of Lobster

Hey Loveys!

Happy Sunday! I hope you all had an awesome weekend like I did!! I'm absolutely exhausted now, but it was SUCH a fun weekend!!! On Friday night after work we ended up making plans with some people that work for C. I didn't really know any of them so it was fun for me to meet them! It was two guys that work for C and their girlfriends/wifes and then a third guy that doesn't work for C but knows the other people and one girl who worked for C. We ended up getting a booth at our favourite bar, Williams Landing. It was really fun to just sit around and chat!

As it turns out, the girl that works for C lives across the street from me and we got along really well! So we're both super excited to be neighbours and hang out :). It's always so nice meeting new people in the city. She's pretty new to the city as well so she understands how hard it is to make friends. We already are planning a date to the St. Lawrence market - SO EXCITED!! :)

3 of the people we were with, and moi!
I had a lot to drink and was definitely feeling it in the morning. I didn't sleep well (which is normal after drinking) and was dehydrated. I ended up spending Saturday morning watching The Hills (surprise surprise). I made my way into the bed in the afternoon and dosed on and off while attempting to read my book.... Which I tried to start in the morning along side a Starbucks, as you can see... but I was too tired and Spencer was going through his crazy crystal period on The Hills, and it was like a train wreck, you don't want to watch it but you just have to. So the book got pushed to the side and I drank my coffee.

So after I finished napping, we planned on going to Rock Lobster here in Toronto for dinner and a couple of drinks. It was recommended to me by a friend, and when Cory explained to me that their Ceasar's come with a lobster tail in it, I knew it was going to be my restaurant soul mate. C and I tried to go last weekend but we went in the early afternoon and it didn't open till 5. So we got there last night around 7, and thank god we got there when we did because as soon as we were seating, a ton of people came in and got turned away saying it was going to be a 1.5 - 2 hour wait! This restaurant, located on Ossington here in Toronto, is unreal. The food is amazing, and the Ceasar I had (well, the two I had) were the most amazing I've ever had. Let me explain in photos:

This is the world famous Ceasar. Seriously. Look at that thing. I look super awkward because the tables are so close together, we tried to take this picture without anyone noticing. So it's also dark because we didn't use a flash. Anyways. Omg. Look at the lobster tail!!! It's on a stir stick so basically what you can see is what you get, BUT STILL! It was a super delicious lobster tail.... omg. My mouth is watering thinking of it.

This is their most popular item on the menu. Since we had never been there before we asked the waitress what she would recommend and this was the first thing she said. It's called a Lobster Roll and basically it's like creamed lobster inside garlic bread. C and I shared one, it came with old fashioned potato chips and a dill pickle! It was soooo so so so so so good and sooooooooo not good for me (creamed anything on garlic bread?) but it was totally worth it.

This was the lobster poutine! This is what I ordered and it was sooo good. As you can see there is tons of lobster on top of french fries with gravy and cheese curds. I shared some with C, but he ordered lobster mac&cheese, which I didn't get a picture of because it was too dark by then and I didn't want to use the flash on my phone. It wasn't as "lobster-y" as the other things we ordered.

All in all the food there isn't the most healthy for you, but it's SO delicious and it's totally worth trying. Even though I try to eat the most healthy most of the time, I totally believe in experiencing new foods, even if they aren't the best for you. Living a balanced lifestyle is all about experiencing life while knowing your boundaries. I don't classify eating out at a place like this a "cheat" meal... who's cheating?? This food was AMAZING and I don't regret eating it at all! A lot of people think that something isn't a "lifestyle" if you have to plan out cheat days... I totally don't agree because I believe that if you're a healthy person, healthy eater, active... that if you decide to eat a lobster roll, it's just a part of life. It's not a cheat.

Does that make sense? It makes sense in my head.

Anyways, after Rock Lobster we decided that it would be a good idea to go to Grace O'Malley's downtown because we had had some drinks and figured why not? We showed up around 10pm, got some drinks and ended up dancing the night away together. Seriously... C is so much fun. He's like the one person I can go out with and it just be us, but we just dance and dance and have a great time!

C's bartender/owner friend took this picture for us. Yay! I totally pulled a Lauren Conrad all weekend and went with liquid eyeliner and red lips hehe.

Needless to say, I forgot to shut the blinds last night before passing out in bed, so 8am rolled around and Mr. Sun decided to wake me up and beam down on me and make me REALLY hot. I watched more Hills this morning and met up with my friend Katie for an iced coffee after C and I did groceries. Lesson 1, don't do groceries hung over. Not productive. Lesson 2, sunglasses are awesome when hungover. It was nice to see Katie and catch up with her...
Sweaty me post run

After the iced coffee, I think I was totally high on caffeine and decided to go for a run. It was 9C in Toronto today and the sun was shining and tons of people were out and about so I wanted to join in. It was my first outdoor run of 2013!! I was REALLY nervous that I was going to do super shitty but it actually wasn't that bad! I ran for a total of 29:18 and ran 4.89km! Instead of running along the water on Lakeshore I decided to run in and out of downtown and ended up running through Liberty Village and back to my building. I realized today that the Toronto Yonge St. 10km is in like 2 weeks and today was my first training run. Epic fail. So I'm going to have to run outside like 4x/week from now until then. Oh my god.

Food For Thought..... Under The Seeeeaaaaaaa, Lobster!

So to keep with the theme of the weekend, I thought I'd do this "Food For Thought" on the health benefits of Lobster meat. I actually had never wondered about loster meat before, the health benefits, the not-so-healthy aspects of it, or anything really. So after eating a ton of lobster last night, I decided to research it. I found a pretty neat article on it, and there is definitely some health benefits I wasn't aware of!

- Lobster meat is one of the most wholesome foods we have today, they give out a ton of vitamins and minerals when boiled, baked, steamed or grilled.

- Lobster meat is low in fat and is high in protein! It's lower in cholesterol than chicken which means lobster meat is heart healthy!

- Lobster meat contains Omega-3 Fatty Acids which lowers blood pressure, prevents heart attack and is excellent for the brain.

- Lobster contains selenium, which aids in thyroid and immune function. The copper found in lobster meat can prevent bone and tissue damage. Vitamin B12 is essential for healthy nerves and red blood cells. Phosphorus is required for proper kidney function and helps decrease arthritis pain. Zinc promotes brain activity, boosts the immune system, and provides a healthy reproductive system. Potassium contributes to healthy heart function.

- Eating lobster can help prevent osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, colon cancer and chronic conditions which include bone, connective tissues, heart and blood vessels.

Did you know any of that? I friggen didn't. I would have started eating lobster earlier in life than Christmas (the first time I had a lobster tail). I'm so glad that there are so many vitamins and minerals in lobster, it gives me an excuse to eat it more often :).

How was your weekend??? Tell me what you did! Did you go out? Go running? There was a ton of races this weekend - did you participate?

Happy Friday!

Hey Loveys!

Happy Friday!

This is a shorter post because it includes a vlog! Whenever I vlog I try to make the reading part a little less long because the vlog is long enough! I hope you're all really excited for a great weekend! Tonight C and I are headed to Rock Lobster.... I'll let you watch the vlog so you can hear about what I'm going to be indulging in!

I'm super excited because some books that I ordered were delivered today. I get so excited over books. It's my dream to have 1. a house, and 2. a room in said house that's all for me. I want to deck it out with book shelves, with tons of books and pictures and flowers and a desk with trinkets and my Mac and a nice, old, vintage chair... basically I want it to look like this... It's the home of a woman who's blog I read and have read for years, but if you scroll down to "home office", I want it. In my house.. all for me. I think I'd rather have all the walls white but I love all the art and the books she has surrounding her. :). Le sigh... someday! Anyways... these are the books I got!

So excited for all of them!! :)

Also, I discovered today that I'm currently obsessed with liquid eye liner. Why, you ask? Well, obviously because Lauren Conrad wears liquid liner, so I must as well. Haha, semi-kidding, semi-true. I've always wanted to rock the thick black liquid line on my upper lid so I'm slowly getting there. I took a picture of my eyes this morning..

Now I just have to muster up the courage to wear a thicker line. I think tonight might be the night. I'm debating having a drink before I do so, but will it jeopardize my abilities to draw a straight line? I learned a neat trick about using liquid liner, and a credit card to guide your brush! So I might try that. But I also don't want to wreck a card if I end up messing up big time. We'll see.

Vlog time. Enjoy!

Oh! And if you're a blogger/small business owner, check out my sponsor page! I started it today so I just want to get the word out there. I'm not hosting a lot of spaces in order to make sure my blog doesn't get super congested, so you miiiiight want to get in while you can :). Just sayin'. Click here to go there directly.

This Is A Super Lame Blog Post

Hey Loveys,

Today was kind of a crappy day for me. I woke up with a poooounding headache. I checked my blood sugars and found that I had a little bit of low blood sugar so I treated it with some juice and dragged my butt into the shower. I still had the massive headache when I got out so I sent a BBM to my boss and let her know I was cashing in a sick day... It was so insane. I never get headaches so I don't know what was going on. Needless to say I spent most of the day in bed napping/sleeping until now!

I had the curtains closed and when I came out of the bedroom, looked out of the patio doors and saw this.

It's spring now... why is it still snow storming? You can't even see the CN Tower in that picture and I live right beside it.... Oy vey.

So in my last post I told you about doing Cindy.. Today I'm still ridiculously sore. Yesterday when I was feeling better I decided to do some cardio so I picked the stepper to try and loosen up my legs. When I was done I went over to the stretching area to stretch them out and foam roll them. I stretched out my legs and quads, but for some reason, they weren't hurting like I thought the would when I stretched them out.

But then...

I hit up the foam roller and could barely put my bodyweight on it. I started with my quads and I usually roll really slowly, but I literally couldn't yesterday. I was actually laughing to myself to keep from crying while trying to roll out the kinks (knots) in my quads. Today it's no better. I can't even lean my elbow against my quad and put my head in my hand. It's awful. So obviously I didn't exercise today which was a good thing I think. So we'll see tomorrow how I feel and what I end up doing... I'm definitely going to attempt to foam roll no matter what. I hope I don't cry.

On a good note, yesterday I got my test results back from my second test I submitted and found out I got 85% on it! Woohoooo! The test was on Nutritional Symptomology II, basically what foods/herbs/vitamins/minerals to use to help aid different medical situations. I was a bit nervous about that test because my first test was all multiple choice/true false, but that test was a lot of written out answers so I wasn't totally sure how I would do. Anyways - turned out well!! And I'm now working on my next test so we'lll see how that goes. It's Anatomy & Physiology .... which is like the hardest ever. It's going to take me forever, but oh well.

I woke up to Ellen on the TV today and Maklemore was performing his song Same Love. I semi-like Maklemore.... I enjoy his Thrift Shop song... but there's this one song that I've heard of his that is SUPER vulgar so it made me dislike him... but then I heard this song and it made me like him again. Take a listen..

It's a song about equal love and gay rights. So nice! Tell me if you like it!

This is a super lame blog post and I don't have much to share.... I'm sorry about that lol. Am I getting boring? I think I'm going to vlog tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Some Lauren, Some Cindy & A Beauty Secret For You!

Hey Loveys,

Have I mentioned how much
I am in love with Lauren
I come to you tonight, from my couch, showered, in sweats, watching The Hills with a coffee in hand. Random right? Oh well. I'm also eating organic corn chips....

Tomorrow is hump day! Someone at work today thought that today was Thursday by accident - hilarious. I so wish tomorrow was Friday! How insane would that be. Monday, Tuesday, Friday. Weekend.. haha. It's nuts. The thoughts that go through my mind are funny sometimes.

So anyways - do you live in Toronto? If so - what the hell is up with this snow storm we're having in the middle of March? Seriously. Easter is in 2 weeks and I'm SUPER excited to see my family! And Jakey the dog, and Louie the cat... And the little munchkins that are my little cousins... Haha, can you tell I'm excited? My Aunt Janis is cooking this year, usually we end up ordering Chinese Food from the 1 Chinese restaurant back home but this year it's closed, so Aunt Janis is cooking! She always makes delicious gluten-free meals. She doesn't eat gluten like me! She usually makes some delicious gluten-free treats too, so I'm looking forward to eating way too much of that.

Since I'm getting back into my workout routine after 2 weeks off (#fail) I'm a bit sore. Yesterday I went for a 3 mile run on the treadmill (remember said snowstorm?) and then did some upper body weights. My upper body is surprisingly not sore, however my legs/quads have been a bit tight today. So what better way to make my body MORE sore than doing a Crossfit WOD at the gym today? So I downloaded a Crossfit WOD App on my iPad and recruited one of my trainer friends at work and we did WOD Cindy!

I used green because it was St. Patty's Day last weekend...
Me and Trainer Friend did 14 rounds in 20 minutes. He 100% could have done way more but he was being nice because I was going so slow. It's a benchmark workout in Crossfit, so hopefully when I go back and do this in a few weeks, I'll get a better number! It's a neat little test workout to see how much more fit you're getting, I would highly recommend giving it a try sometime! My arms are a bit weak and my legs are already sore, so we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Earlier this week I put a poll on my Facebook page asking what people like about my blog and what they'd want to see more of. Ok.. so I have 1580 Twitter followers, 880 Facebook "likes", and over 600+ people looking at my blog everyday and 2 people responded to my poll. Really people? Come on! Anyways, the two wonderful people that did respond told me they'd like to see more recipes and more nutritional information about food... So in addition to posting my little "Food For Thought" tidbits on Facebook, which I've been really lacking lately... I'm also going to do a larger "Food For Thought" on the blog every now and then!

Food For Thought.... Tomato... TomAto?

Ok. For my first Food For Thought I thought I'd do something that is one of my most favourite foods, and coincidentally is something I had for a snack after work today so it was sitting beside me on the table and gave me this idea. Tomatoes!!!!! I've been a tomato freak every since I was a small child. Tomato juice is my most favourite juice ever, I can drink CANS of it, I just crave it whenever it's in the condo or when I'm back home and my mom has bought it. Obviously I'm here to educate, so I want to share the sick wicked ways that tomatoes can help your health!

Tomatoes make your skin look GLOWING! :) Beta-carotine which is also found in carrots and sweet potatoes help protect against sun damage! Lycopene also makes the skin less sensitive to UV light damage, which is the cause of wrinkles and fine lines that we try so hard to eliminate!

They help build strong bones! The vitamin K in tomatoes and calcium are bone strengtheners and lycopene has also been shown to improve bone mass which helps prevent osteoporosis (which is especially important in females!).

Lycopene (popular guy!) can reduce the risk of several cancers including prostate, cervical, mouth, pharynx, throat, esophagus, stomach, colon, rectal, prostate and ovarian cancer! Umm... what? Cool! Vitamins A & C also help fight off free radicals in the body (which can cause cell damage!).

Tomatoes are a great source of chromium which helps to regulate blood sugar.

The Vitamin A in tomatoes help to prevent night blindness! And some studies have shown that consuming tomatoes may help reduce the risk of macular degeneration which is an irreversible eye condition! Vitamin A also helps make hair strong and shiny!!

Holy man. As you can see, you need to think of some way to get tomatoes in your diet, if not for your health than for your skin and hair! Some fun ways to get tomatoes into your diet would be something like adding salsa to scrambled eggs, you can put cute little cherry tomatoes into your salad for lunch or make stuffed tomatoes for dinner!

Alrighty folks - I'm off to make din. But before I go, I must announce the winner of the Lush Cosmetics giveaway!! I'm super late at doing this..... but.......

Drum roll please?

Carly D from Rock The Dogs!! Woohooooo! :) Carly dear, you have 48 hours to email me your deets so I can ship this badboy all the way north to you :).

Tito, Tequila & Lobster with Ghee... What a Weekend!

Hey Loveys,

Hopefully you all had a great weekend!! My weekend was full of lots of fun and exciting stuff! This is the "(mostly)" part of the blog title, so don't judge. I know I've been the opposite of "healthy"lately but I'm really feeling the non-benefits of it and I'm back on track as of today in terms of food, and tomorrow in terms of exercise. I 100% have a double workout planned for tomorrow and I'm 100% doing it, no matter what. I'll post the details of my workout tomorrow. Just to warn you all, I will be extremely sweaty, twice in one day. BOOM!

On Friday night we went out with a bunch of people who work for C. I ended up wearing the black dress that I figured I was going to wear - I wasn't feeling the best and I was kind of bloaty so it covered any "bloaty-ness" quite well. We went to this little Resto Bar in Liberty Village called Politica. A friend of mine and a girl that was with our group actually works there on the weekends so it was nice that everyone knew her there. I had a chicken breast stuffed with cheese and broccoli and mashed potatoes and veggies for dinner along with white wine and a cocktail called a Pick Me Up. I've never had one before, but let me tell you what it is.

1/3 shot of vodka
1/3 shot of Kalua
1/3 shot of Bailey's
1 shot of Espresso
On the rocks

Seriously. That's why it's called a Pick Me Up. It was nice because it literally tasted like an iced coffee, but it woke me up which I needed after working all day. We finished our dinner and our wine and went to Brassaii. There, we had a booth with bottle service which is always super fun, and we were right by the washrooms which is always a plus when you're drinking. I stuck to my typical Vodka Soda with Lime but ended up having a shot or two of some other drink. I wasn't too intoxicated but I felt great! I actually was very proud of myself because I stayed in my heels for most of the night! I usually bust out my Fast Flats but I only had to wear them for a little bit. Wiiicked! Here are some pictures from Brassaii...

Those were some friends that were at Brassaii too!

The night was wrapping up, but then a group of guys marched in and past our booth... they seemed popular and I looked but didn't recognize any of them.. Meh. C turned to me and told me that the one massive guy was Tito Ortez, the super popular UFC fighter and husband of "adult entertainer" Jenna Jameson. Obviously because I had been drinking, I made a bet with C that I could be the first person to get a picture with him. Turns out I totally was, and here's the photo. I look like ass in this picture because the photographer was extremely inebriated and I was standing in a booth and the photographer was on the floor, so it was bound to be an awful shot.. anyways...

He's a massive person. Look how huge his head is next to mine. He was smiley though, which makes him look like a teddy bear and not this massive cage fighter who likes to make people bleed (I'm not the hugest fan of UFC.... I just like being photographed with famous people lol). So that was cool!! Needless to say that Saturday morning was a bit rough. I stayed in bed most of the day until about 3pm (some of this was spent watching a movie). I got up and got ready to head to a Tromba Tequila Tasting with my friend Cory!

It was a really low key event, there was about 15 people there in total I think. There was one man bartender making the cocktails, and 1 man with Tromba Tequila who took us through a little lesson about how Tequila is made and what makes Tromba better than other types of Tequila because it's made from 100% agave tequila! We snapped a few pictures so that I could show you all some of the event! Here's the group of guys I was with with the bartender. He's part of the company Crew Men & Co, soooooo.... he's in his underwear.

And here is myself and the bartender :)

Hehehe. It was so fun! I got to meet some great guys and have some great conversations... Afterwards I came home and C and I thought we were going to go out. We ended up just hanging out at home and having a few drinks together while watching about 9 episodes of The Hills. What a great man... he was even paying attention and everything! On a random note, I found these amazing sunglass in one of our junk drawers and HAD to take a picture of them. I'm not sure who they belong to, but I'm claiming ownership of them going forward.

Haha, oy. We had fun though, and it was great! I was so exhausted last night, we went to bed around 1 and I didn't wake up today until 11:20am. Seriously... I don't know how I slept that long but obviously I needed it. Today however, was very productive. We cleaned our whole condo from floor to ceiling and did groceries! We actually went out of our way to go to a restaurant that I head about yesterday called Rock Lobster. It's a lobster restaurant and they have a Cesar drink they serve with a lobster tail in it. Ummm - what?? YES PLEASE! So we tried to go there but they didn't open until 5pm. Darn it! We ended up having lunch at this cute little Indian Cafe, I had chicken korma! It was so delish, but I wish we could have went to Rock Lobster. We decided to go this Friday after work!

However, the Lobster idea kind of stuck with us and we decided that we wanted to buy some lobster tails for dinner tonight. We got to Loblaws and guess what - Lobster tails are on sale this week! Hello!! Talk about a flipping sign from the universe. So I'm going to post the recipe we're using for Lobster Tail & Garlic Butter. It's not the most healthy, but it's amazingly tasty. First up, I made garlic ghee.

Garlic Ghee
Butter, I used about a 1/2 a cup
Garlic, I used about 2 tbsp, but you can use however much you want.

1. Melt the butter in a pot, I used the super small sauce pot that we had.
2. Put the garlic in the butter and bring to a boil. I used minced garlic, but you can use crushed up cloves too.
3. While it's boiling, foam will form on the top... this is the milk proteins from the butter separating. You want to get rid of those bad boys, so I just spooned them out into a bowl. Keep removing the foam without removing as much butter as possible... eventually no more foam will form.
4. Strain the ghee into a bowl so there are no chunks of garlic left over.
5. Taaadaaaaaa ----> that's my ghee to the right.

Ok... so then after I made the ghee I made the lobster tails.

Lobster Tails
Lobster Tails

1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
2. Place lobster tails in boiling water.
3. Let boil for 12-14 minutes. Shells will turn bright red when finished!
4. Eat..

Haha so easy right??

I loved it! I actually thought this wasn't going to be a healthy recipe because of the garlic butter. Turns out I made ghee which is totally paleo and good for you because you've removed the milk proteins from the butter which is what is allergenic in most people.

BOOM! Dinner is served (almost, C is making steak for Surf n' Turf and I have kale in the oven... but it's almost served). What did you get up to on the weekend? I'd love to hear your workouts, your outtings, anything you did - I want to know about it! Leave a comment below and let me know how you're doing even! Do you like seafood? Lobster?

Can You Help Me Pick A Dress Please?

Hey Loveys,

Happy Friday!!!

I hope you had a great week! I felt like my week was a whirlwind, so I'm glad that this weekend has arrived! I plan on relaxing hard this weekend and just letting loose. I actually got an email from a co-worker today that said she hopes I have a "not so healthy type of weekend!". Haha, I almost died when I read that because it's totally what I'm doing and need.

Last night I didn't sleep well at all. I think I got about 4 hours of sleep.. maybe 5. Anyways, I'm pooped but I'm going out tonight with C's coworkers so I have to muster up the energy to have an amazing night. So I don't know what I'm going to wear. Can you help me pick? Let me snap a few photos of some options..

So while doing this I realized I have a lot of dresses. How is it that I never have anything to wear? I think I'm going to vote for my black, high neck with gold die dress, third from the bottom! I haven't worn it for a while and it will be nice to wear with tights. What's your vote? You have t-minus 1.5 hours to tell me your vote, and I really will take this into consideration! :)

This is a relatively short post because I'm tired and I don't have much to update you on. I meant to post last night, and I did a vlog, but I never ended up posting it! Basically it's a rundown of my day yesterday and my attempt at enjoying black coffee....

Again, how does YouTube decide which clip of the video to use as the little photo. Why are they ALWAYS ridic???? I look like an insane person in each one of them. COME ON Youtube - get better at picking photos!!!

Super Immunity????? Maybe, Just Maybe.

Hey Loveys,

Today was one of my appointments with my diabetes doctor. You know, the one I have a crush on? I wish I could spend more time with him talking diabetes and working out and running, but I really only get to talk with him for about 5 minutes. It's bitter and sweet all at the same time. His technical name is an endocrinologist. I've had a few endo's in my time with diabetes (14 years) and I don't think I've ever spent the least amount of time with a doctor in my life, which is bitter because he's totally my favourite doctor of all time. He comes in, small talks me a little bit, tell me what I need to change on my insulin pump settings and he's gone.

The endo I had before him was back in London, and well... she was my least favourite out of my doctors. I wish I only ever had to spend 5 minutes with her. I think one of the best things to come out of moving to Toronto is the fact that I got to switch doctors and the fact that I got Dr. Perkins. He's so nice and it's fun to make him happy with good blood sugars. Anyways, this time around I learned that I don't have to keep manual records of my blood sugars, how much insulin I have my pump give me and the times of all that stuff anymore because I can do it all through my pump and upload it online for my doc's to check out - neat right? I'm so stoked that I don't have to write everything down anymore. That was always a weak point for me especially when I was in a rush to do things, so this is perfect :). Yay!

Want to see the kind of insulin pump I have?

That's not my hand nor my ACTUAL pump, but it is the pump that I have and am constantly wearing on me. I normally hide it in my bra (TMI?) so that people can't see it. I know that sounds strange, but I don't like drawing attention to it, nor do I want to answer questions about it, however I will answer questions online if you have it, because you can't see my awkwardness when discussing it online haha. You know, my new fav doctor wears an insulin pump, he's also a marathoner and super fit and handsome, but I don't think I've ever seen his pump. Hmm. Maybe he keeps it in his pocket. I don't think he wears a bra so that's probably not an option for him. I should ask him sometime.

So remember how last week I was cleansing and was starving the whole week? Do you also remember about a month ago when I wrote about WHY women get so hungry during PMS? Frig... so it's happening again and I can't seem to eat enough. This is going onto week number 2 of being constantly hungry. My stomach won't stop grumbling. I want to eat a huge dinner and see if that helps. Is anyone else not able to eat enough food this week, or is it just me?

Ok so confession time.

So I still haven't worked out. Not last week and not yet this week. UGH I feel bad about it, but also not really. This week has been a bit nuts and I've had a lot of stuff on my mind, which makes me feel like I should be exercising to help deal with everything, but I haven't because I've just been doing a ton of other things. Even as I lay sit here and write this, I'm yawning and debating having a short nap or busting out my anatomy books and studying. Maybe I should have a coffee. Regardless, tomorrow I'm back in the office (aka the gym) so I'm going to schedule in time to workout and stick to it. I actually got weighed at the doctors today and my lb's are a little bit above normal. By a little bit, I literally mean like 4-5lbs. Not a lot. However, I will be taking that as a challenge and need to work that stuff off! I'll keep you posted (FYI - current weight is 154, goal is 149. Just so you know the benchmark I'm starting at :P).

I'm currently watching Dr. Oz. I know that he has people who love him and there are people who hate him. He has the author of the Super Immunity Diet on his show today.... Hmm... I am listening and typing at the same time and it makes sense. If you don't want to get sick, eat foods that nourish your immune system. He's saying that men who eat like this could live till their 95 and women may live until their 100 or 105 (not tested out, obviously, just the authors opinion). There are four rules he states about getting the most from your food.

1. Eat phytonutrient rich foods. Mixing all colourful fruits and veggies together is the secret.

2. Eat slow absorbing foods. The opposite of fast food. Slow absorbing foods are beans, nuts, and seeds, they absorb over many hours and not instantly and they increase stool fats instead of allowing the fats absorb in your body.

3. Use meat as a condiment. If you eat too much animal product, it raises IGF1 hormone (insulin like growth factor 1) which promotes cancer, so using it as a condiment allows the bulk of the food be vegetables and fruits.

4. Add 10 more chews to every bite of food. The average person has 15 chews of food, so add 10 more to that to 25. Chewing greens better allow the enzymes to be activated by the saliva and helps promote cancer fighting properties from the food. Swallowing food down doesn't allow you to absorb a lot of the nutrients in food.

I'm waiting for the commercials to be over so I can find out the foods that he recommends so I can share them with you... da da daaaa.....

Ok we're back... so after listening, the Super Immune Diet looks A LOT like the Paleo Diet with the exception of beans. Beans are highly recommended in the Super Immune Diet but not so much in the Paleo diet. The author of the book said a couple of great quotes...
The whiter the bread, the quicker your dead...
The more you eat green, the more you get lean...
They are kind of true, right?

Have you heard of the Super Immunity Diet? What are your thoughts if so?

Are there still skeptics on the paleo diet out there? I'm curious to know if it's still growing like crazy, if people are learning the benefits of if people still think it's a fad diet?

Oooo 1 last thing. ONE MORE DAY To enter my coolio LUSH COSMETICS giveaway!! I'm hoping to pass 1000 entries so get your butt on it and help me spread the word!! :) Love you guys.
