Happy Sunday! I hope you all had a great weekend! I'm pooped after my weekend! It was definitely a fun one!
On Friday night we met up with some friends and went out to a bar downtown Toronto called Grace O'Malleys. I've blogged about going there before, but basically it's like a college bar lol. Seriously... I think most people that go there are students. It was packed and it was SO HOT in there, but it was fun none the less. They play country music, classic rock music and some new music. It kind of reminds me of a couple bars in London, ON that I used to frequent often, so I like going back... feels kind of homey.
Last night C and I went to Williams Landing for "date night". We got there and it was PACKED. Like I actually have never seen that place as busy as it was last night. There was also a really cold breeze which made me really cold. We ended up staying for literally 1 drink before coming home, putting on cumfy clothes, turning on My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding and cuddling on the couch. Awww.. it ended up being the perfect date night lol. So cheesy, but I love it.
This weekend marks the 3 week mark to my next race, the Colour Me Rad 5km race that is FINALLY coming to Toronto. We knew it was coming a while back, and when registration opened it was sold out in less than a week. Both Michelle and I were kind of pissed because we both wanted to run it so badly... until the Universe pulled out all of the stops and somehow they decided to do a second day for the colour race and we got in! Theres about 8 or 9 gals running together (both bloggers and non-bloggers!), so the photo opportunities will be unreal. I plan on taking so many photos that the whole run is going to take us an hour (FYI ladies - if you're reading! Lol) so bring you're cameras! The countdown is officially on!
So Ok. I don't know if you follow Power Cakes or anything, but she has a love for Nutritional Yeast. I had no idea what this was until I saw it on sale at Loblaw's and I picked some up. They look like little flakes of cardboard basically... but so many people sprinkle it on so many different foods that I decided to test it out on kale.... and I'm in love with it. It's got kind of a cheesy flavour but it's all natural and plant based and packed full of delicious nutrients that does our bodies good (and who doesn't want what's good for the body - right?)
|This is the kind that my grocery store sells.|
Nutritional yeast is also quite high in fiber, in an ounce there is over 7 grams of fiber (which helps keep us clean inside remember?). Fiber helps us lower blood pressure and cholesterol, reduce the risk of colon diseases (by keeping us clean :P) and reduces the risk of heart disease in humans as well.
The yellow colour of the nutritional yeast comes from riboflavin, a B vitamin. It's actually high in all B vitamins and can help be an all-natural way to supplement B vitamins if you're not getting enough (ie. vegetarians, vegans..). B12 helps produce red blood cells in our body and if we're low in B12 it can make us fatigued and bogged down... so getting enough is important!! :)
I think it's strange that I had never heard of nutritional yeast before reading powercakes.net but I'm glad that I did learn about it! It's definitely something that I'm going to keep stocked in my pantry here on in. I usually sprinkle it on my kale before I bake it as well as some sea salt and EVOO. I've had some people tell me I should sprinkle it on my popcorn or on roasted cauliflower.
Q: What was the best part of your weekend?
Q: Do you use nutritional yeast on anything?
