Telus & Samsung Canada Gear Up Clinic & A Telus Giveaway!

Hey loveys,

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of being invited to Telus to take part in their Gear Up Clinic which featured the Samsung Galaxy S5 & the new Samsung Gear Fit and take part in a workout lead by Celebrity Trainer Tracy Anderson! You may have heard the name Tracy Anderson before because she's super famous for training Gwyneth Paltrow, Molly Sims and Kim Kardashian. I have to admit, I did know who she was but I didn't know much about her workouts or her "method" as she refers to it as.

Her website describes the Tracy Anderson Method as this:
Based on over a decade of research on different muscular structure groups, Tracy Anderson has created a fitness method that can transform any problem area or body type. Tracy has created and patented over 3,000 varying fitness movements that target every muscle in your body. The sequences strategically exhaust the muscles in a way that does not create bulk, but strengthens the connection to the body. This program is designed for anyone wanting to achieve a perfect body naturally.
The workout is a danced based cardio workout that includes hand weights and slide movements with a towel. I was a bit weary in the beginning because I'm tall and not coordinated at all but once I got into it, the class was actually REALLY fun and my behind was twitching at the end from all of the butt exercises we did! We only participated in a 30 minute class, and normally Tracy's classes are 2 hours in length at her studios in LA and NYC, I don't know if I would be able to survive a 2 hour class. Here is a YouTube video of her doing her thaaaang. It's 29 minutes long, but you get the idea (she has videos on YouTube if you want to take part at home and try it out!).

We got a chance to snap a few photos with Tracy after the workout a Q&A session was over.. it was so nice to listen to her speak about nutrition and her method. She really believes in the theory that every single person is different and diet should be based strictly around what YOUR body is sensitive to, and how the only way to know that is to get a blood test. I love that theory because I totally believe the same.

Part of the clinic that Telus was holding was providing us with the new Samsung S5 Phone and the new Galaxy Gear Fit Watch to test out during out workout. Telus is really actively trying to get customers to use technology to help them live a healthier lifestyle and I think that's SO COOL of them to do. The new Samsung Galaxy S5 is enhanced with S Health Software and it's so cool. It's a pedometer, heart rate monitor, food tracker and exercise log all in one.

The phone is so cool because it literally has a heart rate monitor built into the back of it so you can check your heart rate anytime you want!!

The camera on the phone is unreal, 16MP, and the world's fastest auto-focus! The phone is dust and water resistant (1 meter up to 30 minutes) and has a ultra-battery saving mode which allows a person to use the phone for 24-hours with only 10% battery life. HOW COOL IS THAT!?!?

The phone is so incredibly high-tech that Telus offers customers Learning Centre Sessions so you can go in, and sit with someone one-on-one and learn the ins and outs of the entire phone. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is available through Telus for $229 on a two-year term contract or for $730 on a month-to-month contract.
The Galaxy Fit Gear is something SO COOOLLL!!! It's a watch and it has a full colour touch screen on it. It links to the S5 Phone via Blue Tooth and is kind of like your new bestie.

You can set a run or walk distance and it will tell you how far you've ran/walked and how close to your goal you are! You can also set it up so that it connects with your phone so you can see your e-mails, messages and BBMs right on the screen! The watch itself has 4G of space so you can upload music to it, and listen with blue tooth ear phones while on your run. No wires - HOW COOL IS THAT??? I cannot WAIT to take this bad boy out for a run! The Galaxy Gear Fit retails for $219 in select Telus stores and online.

Now clearly I'm obsessed with Samsung Canada and Telus - but they are about to rock your world as well!!

They want to give 1 VERY lucky reader their own Samsung Galaxy S5 Phone and Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit to check out for their very own!! You must be a resident in Canada to enter, but you can use the Rafflecopter below and get in on the action!!

A HUGE THANK YOU to Telus and Samsung Canada for involving me in this amazing event. I loved every minute of it, even if I looked silly trying to keep up with Tracy! Their staff are spectacular at helping us learn the ins and outs of the phone and answering any questions we had about their products and services. World class service at Telus!! :)

Why Is A Little Red Wine Healthy?

Hey loveys,

I've been MIA again this week - seriously, what is wrong with me?

Last week I worked a lot (since I am off school until next week) so I didn't have a ton of time to write in between working out and working and all that fun stuff! This weekend was my friends Bachelorette Party! It was so much fun. Oddly enough, I didn't snap any photos of the event... that's a little surprising to me. To be honest with you - I drank a lot. And I drank a lot of different types of alcohol which is like, the worst decision. Yesterday I spent most of the day in bed thinking of how silly I was to drink so much... Then it kind of got me thinking....

I felt so much better when I wasn't drinking. I gave up drinking for a month when I was doing personal training... and there were definite pros and cons. I felt great, I woke up each day with a clear head and it was amazing. The cons? Well I kind of felt lame when I was at work and turning down wine and champagne, or when I was out with friends and drinking water over wine, or instead of socializing after work, I would run out of work before anyone could notice.

Working in a very social setting and knowing a lot of people makes life fairly interesting. I've worked at my job now for about 3 months, and in that time I have enjoyed meeting a ton of amazing people. The Dragon's from Dragon's Den, The Trailer Park Boys, the Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Toronto Blue Jays, countless Bay St. stock trading rockstars, and tons of professional athletes. The thing with that is sure, it's nice to enjoy a glass of wine and meet new people, but 1 glass of wine is never just 1 glass of wine. It leads to 3 glasses of wine, then someone buys shots, then it's more wine... and, well, it's just never 1 glass of wine.

This week I work 3 nights, and I have to make a decision consciously to either not drink after work or have a STRICT limit of 1 glass. Although having a limit never seems to work, choosing to not drink seems to be the better option of the two. Just to play Devils' Advocate, however, there are some benefits of drinking a glass of red wine. Did you know that? My favourite type of red wine is Pinot Noir, which happens to be the best choice of wine to drink in terms of the health benefits it provides.

Drinking 4-6 ounces of red wine per day may help decrease heart disease, prevent cancer and strengthen the immune system! Because of the tannin's in Pinot Noir (the stuff in wine that makes it taste dry), pairing it with a piece of salmon gives you health promoting benefits of antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. Flavanoids and polyphenols are very concentrated in the dark grapes used to create Pinot Noir, which can get rid of free radicals in the body. Tannins, anthocyanins and procyanidins can help raise HDL (good cholesterol) and lower LDL (bad cholesterol). Resveratrol lowers the risk of coronary heart disease by decreasing the chances of blood clots and helping blood vessels remain unclogged and flexible.

WHEW! See? Benefits... although they only count when you're drinking no more than 1 glass of wine. Which is my new limit. For health reasons, obviously.

Tonight is my first night at work this week, Monday's are usually slow so I will go right home after. Woohoo! I have a lot of fun stuff happening this week! I'm going for an IPL treatment this afternoon before work (lasers in my face.. kind of fun...) and tomorrow I'm going to an awesome Fitness Blogger Event at Telus - details tomorrow or Wednesday.. and an AMAZING giveaway for a lucky reader... seriously, it's my best giveaway thus far), Wednesday I have a photoshoot with my favourite photographer, Tara Noelle, in the morning and I work in the evening, and then I have nothing the rest of the week until Saturday night when I work again. THEN school starts again next week - holy man! Time flies.

Do you like to indulge in a glass of red wine? What's your favourite type?

#MyHappyMonday Week 4

Hey loveys!!

I welcome today, Monday, with open arms and a free hug. YES folks, it's #MyHappyMonday already!!

Whether you're working, or not working, or spending Easter Monday with friends/family or alone in bed, we still need to celebrate the small things that we can on the day of the week people dread most. I'm going to take a second and reflect on this past weekend because it was kind of whirl-windy but it was a great weekend none the less!
My weekend started on Friday because of Easter weekend. C and I drove my two little cousins to Wingham to spend the day with the fam jam! We had planned on staying overnight but my sister came down with the flu and I had (and still have) a stupid cold that I just can't kick. We came home and had a glass of wine and called it a night. It was awesome not being out super late like I normally am on weekends.

Saturday was a fun day. I got up, blogged, went to the gym, did groceries and hung out!! I absolutely love having days like that. The grocery shop we did was epic. SO MUCH healthy food. I'm looooving how well we are eating lately. With me not doing dairy it's been a real help to have some awesome snacks in the house. C and I went to the gym together on Saturday and discovered that we aren't good workout partners lol. He likes to do different types of exercise than I do and I get bored and he gets pressured and it's just not a good match hahaha. Oh boy. Oh well, such is life!

On Sunday we got up and went down to the condo gym and worked out together, but on our own. I had to meet a friend at noon so we had to get the workout in early. It was a good workout for me, included:

Squats
Dips
Chest Press
Lat Pulldown
Shoulder Press
Bicep Curl
Tricep Pressdown
Hip Raises
Push Presses
Dumbbell Bicep Curl
Deadlifts

That was not the order I did them in, but mostly what came to mind as I was trying to remember. Lol. On Sunday I met up with my friend Sheila and had a Cesar with her at a nice little restaurant called Hunter's Landing. We live really close to each other and the resto is right in between us, so it's perfect! She's so cute and I love meeting up with her when I can. She's actually a very new friend of mine so I'm hoping to get to know her better and stay friends!! :)

After that, I came home and got REALLY tired for some reason. Like, I laid in bed and watched Lindsay on the OWN Network all afternoon. I napped on and off and had a bad headache. I'm not sure if it's the cold.. but it sucked! I mean, watching Lindsay Lohan on TV is always a guilty pleasure, but I just had NO energy. I woke up this morning with the same headache, but I think it was partially due to dehydration. I didn't drink a lot of water yesterday because I was in bed, and I noticed that when I peed this morning (Sorry...) it was super gold and it freaked me out. I hate when my pee is yellow. Anyone with me???

Today it's 20 degrees here in Toronto!!! I'm heading out soon to meet up with another gal to have a cocktail on one of the most popular patios downtown called Earl's! I'm excited to hang out with Amy because she's another new friend and I get excited to meet new people and get to know new people! :) I started my day off with one of my favourite berry smoothies and a banana (OMG I love fruit...) and so I'm super happy for the rest of the day!!

What is everybody doing for their #MyHappyMonday? This week I'm not going to post any questions, because I want you to discover the things on Monday's that make you happy and then tell me about it!

Don't forget, #MyHappyMonday isn't just a blog linkup! You can tweet using the hashtag and post photos of happy things on Instagram using the hashtag as well! You can tag me in any of the above using my handle @sarahohm and I will share them as well! I can't wait to see all the happiness today has to bring! :)

Saturday Ramblings.

Bonjour loveys!

I hope everyone who is celebrating Easter had a great Good Friday (aka Holidayyy!)! C and I took the day and went up to my home town of Wingham, ON and saw my fam jam for the day. We had planned on sleeping overnight but yesterday morning my sister woke up with the flu and I have a cold myself so we thought it best to just come home and try and not get ourselves sick, and others sick as well. It was fun seeing my fam again. We drove my little cousins from Toronto back to Wingham so that my Aunt and Uncle (they're grandparents) could take them, and oddly enough they were like silent most of the drive! I don't know how that happened. A 9 year old and an 11 year old being quiet. I think we hit the jackpot! LOL.

That's my little cousin.. isn't he the cutest?

I stuck to my "no dairy" diet, and my aunt told me that according to my blood type I shouldn't be having dairy either. She's a naturopath so she would know! I shouldn't be having gluten, dairy, apples, cabbage... I also noticed that when I was at work on Thursday night, that after I ate some bread my stomach got a bit upset. It could be dairy in the bread, or maybe it's wheat and I'm just getting sensitive to gluten as well. We'll see. I'm going to avoid bread at work tonight and see how I feel. Hopefully I can get to the grocery store before work so I can bring my own food. I feel so much better when I do that.

I've been suffering from a cold for the last few days. Avoiding dairy is always a good thing because dairy actually produces mucus in the body which isn't ideal when your body is already over producing. My nose is basically full of grossness and no matter how much I blow, I can't seem to get it all out. Gross.

This week has been SO GOOD in terms of workouts!! I worked out on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and C and I are going to the gym today! My hamstrings are super tight today. I don't have a bathtub in my condo, we just have a stand up shower, so I can't soak my muscles... so this morning I found myself trying to get the shower as hot as I could handle and trying to stretch my legs out in there lol. That would have been quite the sight to see... but it doesn't exactly work the same. So I'm going to have to get super warm at the gym today and then stretch my hamstrings out then.

Did I mention that I'm now on break from school for 2 weeks?? Except I'm not really "off". I'm working almost every night this week plus I need to workout tons (I have a photo shoot on the 28th - BAH!) and I need to really put a dent in this online certification course I'm doing to become a certified Social Media Strategist! So I don't have any downtime per se... but it's good because it keeps me on my toes. I just hope I can kick this damn cold soon so I can continue being productive!

Anywho, I'm going to go get ready and head to the gym! This is the most random blog post I've done in a while.. oh well.

I hope you have a GREAT weekend!! Oh!! And get ready for #MyHappyMonday #4 coming up this week!! Eee!!

My Top 3 Fav Healthy Snacks

Hey loveys,

Lately because of my crazy schedule, I've been eating a lot more snacks and a lot less meals. This is ok for me because I LOVE snacks so much. It's been a while since I've had an actual cooked meal that I've cooked because I've been working over dinner or I've been spending my evenings studying and my focus isn't on preparing food.

I was actually thinking about my favourite snacks today after I finished my workout and wanted something good to fuel my body. So these are 3 of my favourite healthy snacks that I've been eating a lot of lately because of pure convenience and nutritional benefit. Let me show you!

First up, my favourite... a berry protein smoothie. I've never been one for the "tropical fruit" smoothies... I always prefer a berry smoothie! My typical smoothie includes either fresh or frozen berries. I buy an assortment of frozen berries when I purchase frozen, or I just use up whatever fresh berries I have in my fridge before they go bad. If I'm using frozen, I don't include ice in my smoothie, however I do put some cubes in if I'm using fresh berries. My favourite berries to use are strawberries, blackberries (they give it an awesome purple colour) and cherries!! Cherries are for sure my favourite when they're frozen. I then add a scoop of Sun Warrior Plant Based Raw Vanilla Protein and fill the rest of the cup up with 1 part coconut water and 1 part regular water and then BLEND.

I love berries because of their high nutritional factor. They are FULL of antioxidants (any fruit or veggie of the dark purple/reds are full of these) which help fight off free radicals in the body (free radicals lead to cancer..). Antioxidants help protect your immune system as well as help your skin and nails. Some of the antioxidants in berries are Anthocyanins, Quercetin, and Vitamin C.  Anthocyanins are what give berries their colour and helps reduce inflammation in the body! Quercetin can also help reduce inflammation in the body, specifically in the joints which is a bonus for people suffering from arthritis. Vitamin C is responsible for the health of collagen in our bodies, which helps maintain cartilage and aid in joint flexibility (among other things)!

Next up...

This is my take on a classic yogurt parfait. I discussed a couple days ago how I'm off of dairy because my body does NOT like it so when I purchase yogurt, I purchase yogurt made with coconut milk instead of actual dairy. Basically, I scoop the vanilla coconut milk yogurt into a bowl, cut up any fresh fruit I have in the fridge (or use frozen if I have some on hand) and mix it all up! Sometimes I will put ground flax seed on top if I have some in my cupboard. Here you can see I used fresh fruit, strawberries, blackberries and green grapes!

I choose coconut milk yogurt over rice milk yogurt or almond milk yogurt because I know the benefits of coconut milk in your diet as a healthy fat! Almond milk is a VERY close second, so go ahead and do that if you want to. Coconut milk contains Lauric Acid, Antimicrobial Lipids and Capric Acid all which have antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties. Lauric Acid helps fight viruses such as the flu! Coconut milk also helps with cardiovascular health because it may help the body fight off organisms that produce plaque in the arteries and blood vessels.

Oooo and don't forget, the healthy fats in coconut milk help our skin and hair look AH-mazing because the natural fats are like an antiseptic to the body and help treat dandruff, skin infections and dry skin. It serves as a kind of "natural moisturizer" and MAY help repair wrinkles and damaged skin. BONUS.

And last but certainly not least...

So I think this is probably the easiest snack in my list here because it's literally plopping some veggies into a bowl and opening up the hummus and dipping and eating. My favourite hummus to purchase is Summer Fresh Foods Roasted Garlic Hummus or their Red Pepper Hummus. They are SO GOOD and I actually went to their factory where they make the hummus a while ago and they are so impecable at what they do that I've been an even bigger supporter ever since going there.

My favourite raw veggies to eat with hummus are cucumbers (mini), bell pepper (orange or yellow), radishes, carrots and celery. I don't need to explain to you why raw veggies are healthy for you. If you don't already know that you should be eating veggies, well... I don't know what then, but it's sad. Hummus is a great way to get a little added protein into your diet since it's made with chick peas and chick peas are a GREAT source of plant protein.

I would love to know what snacks you would add to my list! Leave a comment below with either your recommendation or a link to your fav snack and I will head over and check it out!!

Another Race?

Hey loveys,

I'm currently in the middle of a 6 hour study session for my last exam of the semester (YAY!) and it's math... womp womp. So I decided to take a short break and write a little blog post!

This morning before I started studying I decided I wanted to go for a run. I haven't ran much in the past few months so I was apprehensive because I was scared of having to start my running from square 1... and that kind of bums me out. I felt good today though, and although I decided to run inside, I still convinced myself that I could do a 5km no problem. I think my 5km PB is like 27:something.... but whatever.

I put on my workout clothes and made my way down to my condo gym. I have to admit that when I'm in a hurry, that gym comes in handy. It doesn't have a ton of equipment and so I really only use it if I'm in a rush or don't feel like taking the street car to the gym. I can definitely make-do with what's down there. I went to the gym near my condo yesterday and my legs are a bit tender, so because I was just running I decided to use the condo gym today. Anyways... I'm getting a little off track. I got down there and the gym was empty. OH the benefits of having a condo gym and being there earlier in the morning.

I hopped on one of the treadmills and turned on my "RUN!" playlist and started running. I run at a conservative 6.0 mph and run for 9 minutes and walk for 1, for a total of 30 minutes. I actually surprised myself with how great it felt to be on the treadmill again (I know.. who says that about the treadmill? When it's less cold I'll be outside.) and to just listen to music and think about nothing really.

By the end of my workout I was SUPER hot and SUPER sweaty and SUPER red... No I don't have a photo to share, I looked awful. The photo above is pre-run and that's all I'm willing to share lol. I had thought in my head that I would do some lower body work today to compliment my run, but after my run I laid on the floor and waited until my pulse was down around normal again and then did some stretching. My hamstrings are SO tight from doing deadlifts in the gym yesterday... I love that feeling. Makes me feel like I worked hard! :)

With all this run talk being had... I think I've decided I would like to do some races this year. I kind of stopped doing them last year for whatever reason. I don't know how I'm going to do a ton of races on a student budget, but I can at least get 1 or 2 in this year! I think I'll work up to a 10k and if my body doesn't break down and cry, maybe another half-marathon? The thought of that always scares me because it was so exhausting the first time around. Although I did lose a ton of weight and really felt great after icing all of my lower body joints after a long run. Lol. I'm not committing... I'm going to wait it out and see how I feel after doing a couple of smaller races.

Last week was actually the Toronto Yonge St. 10km race and I've done that race for the past 2 years. I was kind of sad to miss it... but I will do it again next year! :) I love that race because it's mostly downhill. Hehehe..

ALSO... I have a pretty cool giveaway happening on the blog soon, but I've sort of implemented a rule on my Facebook Page that the giveaway will only be unlocked once I reach 2000 likes. So make sure to click here and "like" my Facebook page so we can get this giveaway rolling!

What races do you have planned for the summer??

#MyHappyMonday Tuesday Edition

I KNOW!

I know...

Today isn't exactly "Monday"... but I had an English exam yesterday AND I had to work sooooooo #MyHappyMonday quickly became #MyBusyMonday so instead of writing something crappy and quick, I decided to wait until today to post for #MyHappyMonday.
Today I'm super happy. I don't know why really. I woke up not having to go to class this morning (it's exam week! No class until Thursday morning!), and even though the weather is really crappy here in Toronto....

... you see that correctly. Snow. Yesterday it was 20 degrees outside and today it's -7. Anyways, I was happy because this weather really encourages not being outside and being PRODUCTIVE indoors!! This is exactly what I needed today. I've already been somewhat productive... but here is my list of things "to-do" today..

1. Food prep
2. Blog
3. Clean the condo a little bit
4. Study
5. Workout
6. Answer e-mails

So I've crossed off almost 3 things (blogging is something I'm currently doing... so let's say it's.. half done) on my list already and it's just after 10am! Not bad!!

When I look back on how I've ate the last few years.... a few things come to mind. Vegetarian, Paleo, Gluten Free... I've tried everything. In the past couple of weeks however I've really been paying close attention to what has been upsetting my stomach and my body and what hasn't. When I was personal training, I learned that I can't digest broccoli well AT ALL. It made me swell up so big and made me so gassy, I quickly learned that it happens to a lot of people actually. So I've cut broccoli out since it just does not agree with me. Lately though, I've noticed that dairy has really been kicking my ass.

I don't tend to eat a lot of dairy. I usually have cream in my morning coffee and the odd time I'll snack on some cheese because I LOVE CHEESE. But there has been a couple of times where I've had a little bit of ice cream after dinner and it sends my digestive system into pure chaos. I'm going to be blunt about it, but basically I fart and burp and it's just plain old disgusting. Even yesterday, I tried to eat a small bowl of cream of mushroom soup and a couple of spoonfulls in, I set my bowl down and lied on the couch because my stomach really hurt.

So that's fine. Dairy doesn't agree with me, so this morning I put almond milk in my coffee instead of cream. So far so good! I'm diagnosing myself as a bit lactose intolerant. Yes, correct, I'm diagnosing myself. Am I a doctor? Far from it... but if something makes me swell and gassy, well I can assume my body doesn't really enjoy it. There are some seriously interesting stats on lactose intolerance, did you know?

- Lactose intolerance affects more than 7 million Canadians, but probably more because some people won't associate their symptoms with lactose intolerance.
- 25% of people with lactose intolerance also have celiac disease (allergy to gluten).
- 33% of all people are lactose intolerant
- 90% of Asian-American's are lactose intolerant.
(source) (source)

Some symptoms of lactose intolerance or dairy allergies are:
- Abdominal pain 30ish minutes after consuming dairy
- Diarrhea and gas after consuming dairy
- Headaches and nausea
- Acne, rashes, eczema
- Constipation
- Mucus buildup

I love being in tune with my body enough to recognize when something isn't sitting right with it. That makes me REALLY happy on this #MyHappyMonday Tuesday Edition. I'm hoping my stomach problems and digestive problems subside quickly now that I've taken dairy completely out of my diet. Bah. I'm really going to miss cheese.

For those of you who don't have something crazy specific to share like me finding out I can't have dairy (and it making me happy to not have stomach pain!), here are some questions you might want to answer for #MyHappyMonday.

What was the first thing that made you smile today?
What are you most looking forward to about today?

What is your favourite thing about this Monday?
Exercise increases endorphins! Do you use exercise to improve your mood?
If you could have a 1-on-1 dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be, and why would it make you happy?

Remember to link-up below! I don't have high hopes for the numbers in the linkup today because I'm a day behind, but I'm going to try! :)

My Happy Monday Week #2

Hey loveys,

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

I did a bunch of studying and I worked on Saturday night. I admit that I didn't get home until the wee hours of the morning last night which made today extremely unproductive. A friend of mine I used to work with was having her official "good bye" party with work folks so when I was done working at 2am, C and I made our way to her apartment to hang out with my coworkers! We didn't end up getting home until about 4:45am so I spent a chunk of today sleeping on the couch since I woke up at about 9am this morning.

Since today is Sunday, that means tomorrow is Monday..

Well, d'uh Sarah... but what else does it mean?? It means tomorrow is the second weekly instalment of My Happy Monday! Last week was the first weekly My Happy Monday that I've ran and it was pretty successful with 6 blogs that linked up!!
I loved reading how everyone was enjoying their Mondays and how the idea of focusing on what makes Mondays so great is helping get people's weeks off to a great start! :) I have some fun new questions to ask for this weeks My Happy Monday, so here they are!

What was the first thing that made you smile today?
What are you most looking forward to about today?
What is your favourite thing about this Monday?
Do you have a pet who makes your heart melt? Tell us about them and why they are so fantastic!
Are you reading a book currently?
What is something small that you’ve done for someone else today, that put a smile on your face?

Monday's have always been my favourite day of the week because I find that it's kind of like a "fresh start" to the week.... they usually fly by and they just usually result in good things. I try and reach out to people I haven't talked to much over the weekend, and try and be happy and productive all day as well! Do you also find though, that sometimes you like having a quiet Monday? Like, put the phone away, ignore the outside world and just kind be present in whatever it is you're doing? I might try and do that tomorrow... I need to unplug just slightly and detach myself from technology slightly because it's literally all I do lol. So tomorrow I might be on my computer doing homework, but I'm going to try and solely focus on the task I'm doing. I have a love affair with social media and it tends to take over whatever I'm doing when I'm on the computer so I'm hoping I can kind of... turn it off tomorrow and relax. We'll see!!

I am super excited to read everyone's responses to these questions tomorrow!! Below is the linkup gadget, so make sure if you're blogging about My Happy Monday, you insert the link below!

Wednesday Wonderfulz Link Up

Hey loveys,

I hope everyone is getting their Wednesday's off to a great start! Today is the first week that Linda from Fitness Mom Wine Country is hosting a Wednesday Wonderfulz link up on her blog, head over and check it out!

Basically we share things that are wonderful, on Wednesdays! Somewhat like My Happy Monday, but a different name and different day of the week :).

This morning I woke up at 5:45am like normal and was out of the condo by 7am to catch the street car. The street car has been abnormally efficient this week, which is odd, because at least 3 times last week I had to wait while 5 packed street cars passed me in the freezing cold. HOWEVER, I'm sooo not complaining, but instead of getting to school just in the nick of time before class starts, I get to school like half an hour early. It's not the biggest deal, I usually just end up getting a Starbies and sitting and creeping social media until it's time to head into class. Today was no different. The weather is so beautiful here in Toronto right now... 8 whole degrees!! It's like, tropical compared to recent weather!!!

In class (Human Resources) we reviewed what is going to be on the exam next week and class was dismissed at 8:50 which means I was back home by 9:30! My other class is home based this week, so I can do it on my own time. When I got home I cleaned up the condo a little bit and I sat down and IMMEDIATELY thought "Omg, the condo gym will probably be dead right now. I'M GOING!!!" So I threw on my gym clothes and made my way down to the condo gym.. and guess what? EMPTY!! My favourite.

Today is day 3 of 3 this week for workouts, so I'm super excited about that. Yesterday I went down to the gym in the afternoon and there were a lot of people doing weights, and the condo gym isn't exactly "large" so I opted to do cardio, something I haven't done in a really long time. And out of the all the cardio machines, I picked the treadmill. I set it for 30 minutes to see if I could bang out a 5k like I used to be able to.

I didn't quite make it to 5k, but I was impressed with my distance and speed because I literally haven't ran in about 4 months... so since this was my first run in 4 months, I think I did pretty damn good! So since I ran yesterday I decided to do weight lifting today. My workout included:

Walking lunges
Squats
Incline Chest Press w/ Dumbbells
Deadlifts
Cable Chest Fly
Squats Holding a 40# dumbbell
Shoulder Press
Bicep Curls
Tricep Pressdown

My arms are pretty tired!! And then after my workout I decided that I wanted today to be day 3 of 3 for blogging as well!! YAY this week is turning out to be a very fantastic week!!

I'm now off to practice math and algebra and start making notes and practicing stuff for my final exams next week. EEEEE.... I'm so excited that this semester is OVER!!

Happy Wednesday!!

A Bump In The Road

Hey loveys,

I mentioned quickly yesterday that life hasn't been the most "healthy" lately. A reason I think so many people like this blog is because I'm not really hiding anything... I'm not super healthy all the time. SURPRISE!

I was doing a personal training program for 3 months and I recently finished it (more on this at a later date) and when it was done I kind of took some time and did whatever I wanted to do. I stopped working out and I went out partying and I let myself eat what I wanted for about 1.5-2 weeks. With that being said, I still ate fairly healthy (I didn't eat junk food ALL the time) but I definitely did not do any exercise.

I feel like I mentally needed a break like this for a couple of reasons. As much as I loved my personal training, when I had to go to the gym I had to dedicate 3 hours for a 1 hour workout because of travel time and whatnot... With school, that equals stressful. I also wanted to be able to spend time with C because when I was doing personal training, a lot of times it was over the dinner hour, so he would either get home and I'd immediately leave, or I'd leave before he'd even get home and sometimes wouldn't be home till 7:30 at night, and if you don't know, in the morning's I leave the house at 7am.. and sometimes he's not awake by then.

It was nice to have the extra time to spend with him and just to do my own thing and get back into blogging and really focus on school. I work on weekends and lately I've been staying after work to hang out with people I know and have some drinks. Some drinks tends to turn into more than some, which equals a hangover on Sunday mornings. Before I ended my PT sessions, I spent 1 month not drinking any alcohol. I felt so incredibly slim, my bodyfat percentage dropped like crazy and I felt just pretty great... I've noticed now that I've been drinking again, that I don't feel as great and I feel like I don't look as great.

This blog is all about me being honest and being real, and admitting when I fault.. so basically the last 2-3 weeks have been a hot mess.

GOOD NEWS!!

This weekend I didn't drink/party NEARLY as much, I wasn't hungover on Sunday, I was productive and felt great. Yesterday I was back in the gym full force! I worked out in my condo gym and it's fun to do exercises that I have learned from personal training now. Yesterday my workout consisted of....

Squats with a 25# dumbbell
1-legged hamstring curls, 30#
Lat pulldown, 60#
Hip raises
Upright cable row, 50#
Rear kick backs
Back extension with 25# dumbbell
Negative Dips

I think that's all... Oh! And I ran for 5 minutes for a warm up because my condo gym was FREEZING! It's actually been a really long time since I've gone for a run. My old trainer said that my running will probably be improved because my legs are so much stronger now and my strides are probably a lot longer just from the increase in strength. I can't wait till it gets a liiiiiiiiitle bit warmer outside and I can hit the trails along the lake here in Toronto. Remember when I used to run all the time? Those were the days.

These pictures really make me want to start doing races again.... hmm...... food for thought I suppose.

This week has also been great in terms of diet.. even if it is only Tuesday. I haven't cheated, except for a glass of red wine last night. I love red wine before bed.... I'm sorry, but it's fantastic and I'm not upset about it. I've been drinking a TON of water to make sure my hydration levels are prime and I've been sleeping well at night which is great. All in all, I had a little bump in the road but I'm back on track and I feel great about it.

Yesterday's "My Happy Monday" was a big success for it's first week!!! I had 6 bloggers do a post on their Happy Mondays (links are in my previous post... go check them out!). My new goal is definitely to be blogging more often, even if it is just rambles. Like today.

Anywho, I'm off to do some algebraic problem solving for my math test on Thursday... and make notes for my Business class, and my Marketing class, and my HR class, and do online quizes to study for my Marketing class, and learn some advanced stuff about Excel for my computers class... le sigh. The life of a student...
