Falling Back In Love....!

Hey loveys,

I can not express to you enough how excited I am now that summer is upon us here in Toronto. We put up with so. much. cold this winter (ie Polar Vortex) that this summer is going to be MUCH deserved. When spring arrived, it was more of a wet and grey spring as opposed to a sunny one with blossoming flowers. I mean, rain is fine, and necessary (I guess) but it kind of sucks in general. This last week or so has been the best weather we've seen probably in like 8 months and I totally took advantage of it.

We all know that summer means, for most of us, going out and socializing more than normal which means consuming a few more calories than we normally would. This is all true for me... however the part I'm going to discuss today is the fact that since it's been so nice outside, I think I've kind of, you know, fallen back in love with outdoor running.


For a while I was pretty over running. I wasn't doing any cardio, I was just lifting weights and I think that's totally fine to do because it was winter and weight training is always a good thing, but when it's summer time, I'm sorry but I do not want to be cooped up in a gym while I watch all the awesome people outside soaking up the sun. You can bet your behind that I will be out there with everyone else in one form or another. Getting back into the running groove has been very good so far! Last week I got outside to run on Thursday and again on Sunday. I snapped some photos while en route so I could secretly sneak in a break for my blog.

I'm super lucky to live right along the water so I can just hop outside and go running along the lake on the trails that are made. There were A TON of people out either running, biking, walking or rollerblading. I had to dodge a few people and almost got run over by a cyclist, but whatever... I got a little colour on my pale skin so it was worth it (except my face. I wore sunscreen..). I remember when I was running last year I decided that I just wanted to run at my own pace and not try and compare myself to others. I've been doing that now as well. I find when I run at what I'm comfortable with, I'm less sore, I have less injuries and most importantly I just enjoy the experience waaaaaay more.

Other than that - I have been drinking on patios and celebrating nothing in particular. Haha. Surprise, surprise.

Have you been getting outside more now that the weather is nicer?? I can't wait to get out for a run again! Maybe tomorrow if it's nice out! :)

{Wellness} Natural Trends for Summer 2014 from the CHFA

I hope everyone is having a great week! Because I don't have class on Fridays, Thursdays always fee like the end of the week for me! It's so great :)... although I always need to be studying on Fridays and during any spare time I may have. Lol. I feel like ever since I've been in school, I've been WAY more busy than I was before.

The good news?

It's all stuff I LOVE doing (marketing school, awesome events in Toronto, working at my new (not so new) job, blogging, exercising, shopping).. you get the idea :).

Ever since the weather started getting nice I've been going out a lot more and not caring so much about workouts and food. I mentioned this before, but boy did that ever catch up with me. It's so crazy how quickly you can notice your body changing if you don't lift weights as much as normal or enjoy some wine a couple more nights per week. This week has been so super good for me. I've been packing all of my meals to take to school and to work, I have decided I'm going to hold off on drinking for a while, so I've only been drinking water, tea and coffee, and I've been getting in a lot more exercise when I can. I've learned I literally don't have time to exercise Monday-Wednesday so I'm turning into the "weekend warrior" where I workout Thursday-Sunday.

I was sent a press release from Merkato Communications yesterday in my e-mail about the top 5 natural summer trends that the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) has put out! I thought that you guys would enjoy this so I'm going to share it with you!! Basically the CHFA is Canada's largest national trade association dedicated to the natural health and organic products industry. The association represents manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, distributors and importers of natural health and organic products, including foods, vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal products, homeopathics, sports nutrition products, fibres and health and beauty aids. With a membership of over 1,000 business owners and operators across the country, CHFA represents an industry that contributes $6 billion annually to the Canadian economy.

Trend #1: Natural Hydration
The first choice for summer 2014 hydration is a new beverage that's close to home: maple water. Spring is maple syrup season, when maple farmers across the country tap their trees and boil down the sap to make maple syrup. What many Canadians do not know is, in its purest form, maple sap is an effective summer hydrator. Filled with minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and maganese, this low calorie beverage can provide energy without spiking your blood sugar. Other natural healthy alternatives include coconut water, kombucha or making your own fruit infused water to stay hydrated this season.

Trend #2: Natural Skin Care

Opting for a sunscreen that contains zinc-oxide and titanium-dioxide in the ingredient list is a must this summer, especially when choosing one for your kids. When applied, these metals lay on the surface of the skin without being absorbed, and reflect potentially damaging UVA and UVB rays. For after-sun protection, the focus is on Aloe Vera and vitamin E creams, as both are excellent natural options to help soothe the pain caused by sun burns. Keeping your body's internal defenses stocked with anti-oxidant supplements like carotenoids, vitamin C, and vitamin E can also help to protect your skin against sun damage.

Trend #3: Ultimate Summer Supplements
The hottest supplements to watch for on the shelves of your local natural health retailer this summer include omega-3s and Astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a supplement naturally derived from a pink carotenoid antioxidant found in algae. According to holistic pharmacist Sherry Torkos, "Astaxanthin has been clinically studied for helping to protect against wrinkles, redness and UV damage." Natural health experts also raved about the anti-oxidants Vitamin C and Vitamin E, all of which help your body respond to the harsh effects of UV radiation resulting from sub exposure. If you are currently on medications, or taking other natural health products, speak with your health care practitioner about which supplements are right for you.

Trend #4: Label Literacy

Canadians are increasingly demanding simple transparent labelling. "Many manufacturers are leading the way and saying 'we believe in truth in labelling and we are going to self-declare what all the ingredients are int he product,'" said Matthew James, chair of CHFA's Board of Directors and President of Purity Life Health Products LP. Canadians should look out for labels like the Canadian Organic Symbol that tells you at a glance that the ingredients used are obtained from certified organic sources.

Trend #5: Summer Superfoods for Natural Health
"This summer's trediest super food is going to be watermelon," says Nutrition Journalist and gluten-free expert, Kathy Smart. "It is extremely hydrating and provides a lot of important minerals. Expect to see it in people's water bottles, salads and frozen into popsicles." Watermelon is also a great source of lycopene, a potent antioxidant pigment that gives watermelon its rich colour, with a growing list of benefits from prostate to skin health. Other delicious and health summer superfoods range from seaweed snacks and healthy bars, to anything and everything coconut.

This post is coming a bit late - but hey, better late than never!

I got an email a couple of weeks ago from a rep from the website asking if I would like to become a Brand Ambassador for them - UHH HELLO... shoes???? I can never say no to shoes!!! :) Of course after I checked out their website, I instantly said I would love to!!

The has a ton of different shoes for every different person out there. The shoes I picked were these gorgeous Nine West Goodlookin Heels...

The website is so insanely easy to use. I love that they carry a wide variety of brands.. to be honest it took me a while to pick out only 1 pair because there were so many to choose from! I loved a lot of the Jessica Simpson shoes, but ultimately these babies won due to pure versatility. These shoes are so classic and can be worn with jeans or a little black dress or with office attire!

I put together a couple of different outfits that I will be wearing these shoes with... Check it out!

As you can see I have a fear of actually looking at the camera (just kidding). But this is a great way to show you how these shoes can go from day time clothing (the first photo) to night time clothing (the 2 middle photos). When you're going to invest in a good pair of shoes, make sure you're going to be able to wear them with multiple things in your wardrobe. I read a book once by Nina Garcia and she mentioned that everyone should have a rule, don't buy it unless you can think of 3 things in your closet that the item will go with... these shoes go with EVERYTHING! :)

Breast Augmentation Information Night at The Plastic Surgery Clinic + My First Run Outside This Season!

OK before I get into the fact that I haven't blogged in almost 2 weeks, I just want to say that YES I did pick a winner of the phone/watch, YES I already contacted them - Sara Bolton - and if there was 1 thing I learned during this giveaway was that there are some very greedy people out there. I'm not going to name anyone specifically or anything... but like, come on. Anywho... that's enough of a rant for today....


I know - I'm like the worst blogger in the world. There's good reasons though, I'm not just not doing anything but unfortunately sometimes blogging gets pushed to the back burner when I have school and work... :)

Last Tuesday I was a guest speaker at an event at The Plastic Surgery Clinic for a private function they were having for women interested in learning more about breast augmentation specifically. I really super enjoyed doing this because I love being involved with helping people figure out what is right for them in terms of their bodies. I have a lot of women who contact me all the time asking about breast augmentation (as you probably know, I've been a pretty open book about it all) and I got to meet a few of the ladies who attended the event to get more information.

The first part of the event was just mingling and waiting for the attendees to arrive. Dr. Lista was in attendance, Rosie and Brittany who are patient coordinators were in attendance, Daniel & Svetlana were doing makeup touch ups on the attendees for fun, Cindy who is an RN at the clinic was there and myself to talk to patients who wanted to talk specifically to someone who has undergone the surgery.

The attendees went on a tour of the whole clinic with Cindy where she showed them the consultation rooms, the pre-operation rooms, the operating room and the post-op recovery room and they eventually made their way to the basement of the clinic where the presentation area was set up, and where we were waiting to start speeches. The attendees sat down and Cindy did a lovely job of introducing Dr. Lista (whom she's worked for for 4.5 years) and Dr. Lista took the stage and basically went through the whole breast augmentation process, the types of implants available, how they do the procedure specifically, etc etc...

After Dr. Lista was through with his speech, he introduced me and I took the stage. If you know me well, you know that public speaking isn't exactly my forte. I was nervous, but I had a guide to go on based on what people want to hear me talk about, and really - I lived through the whole experience! I've gone through my experience so many times with so many different people, that I just decided to go up to the front, sit on the chair and pretend like I was talking to a girlfriend. I spoke for about 10 minutes to a group of about 25 women, I was super nervous the whole time, but Dr. Lista and the other staff said I did really well, so fingers crossed they invite me back to do another so I can do it even better next time! (If anyone from M10 or PSC is reading this... ahem... :P).

After the speeches, the attendees were encouraged to stay and mingle, drink some wine and eat some food, and they all got an awesome gift bag to take home! I think the women really appreciated the whole experience. A lot of the women who I've been in contact with since the event have told me they really enjoyed it and really appreciated the one-on-one time with Dr. Lista and the staff rather than having it be in a consultation setting where things may sometimes be a bit rushed, and just not so casual. Before the night was officially over, we did snap a few photos (for my blog of course.. but just of the staff)...

Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of Cindy the RN or Elizabeth and Alexa who are marketing ladies, but next time for sure (again.. ahem... :D). Last week was also my first week back to school! I also started doing a little online freelance work as a little extra side-job and that's another reason I haven't been able to blog (because of deadlines!). Yesterday was SO nice outside that I decided to get my butt outside and go for a run along the water. I can't even get over how wonderful it was. It was my first run outside of the whole year and it was SO refreshing. There were so many people out on bikes and rollerblades and running as well that I couldn't pass up the chance!

See - there's me... and my runners... along the water! If the weather stays nice and clear this week I will be doing a lot more outdoor running. I'm taking today off to 1. Blog, 2. Work and 3. Rest because I've ran for the past 3 days and my calves are a bit tight.
